ReplyI suggest that the readers check out Ted Siedle's series on Gina at:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/edwardsiedle/2013/04/23/educating-gina/
While there are questionable investment practices an SEC investigations, Gina is traveling the country giving speeches and drumming up cash for her governor run. I see that the bloom is off the flower. I also believe that the State should seek some kind of settlement as I see the State losing the pension lawsuit. Lots of questions with few answers. -
On the article School Board Puts Off Decision on Full-Day Kindergarten in Barrington

ReplySo, as the population of school age children is on the decline and possible layoffs should be on the table, the town is considering hiring ten more people? Messore is right in that more thought must be put into this. Is there a petition to sign for folks who believe that costs for all day kindergarten should be found elsewhere in the budget (by cutting something else) or put off the issue until the economy improves? Enough with the constant tax increases.

ReplyI do not believe anyone is saying the all day kindergarten is a bad thing. Those with youngsters will argue that it is a necessity. It is just that in these trying economic times it may be considered a luxury to the majority of citizens. By all means, put it in. Just find the funding in the current budget. Are middle school sports necessary? Some will say absolutely; others maybe not. Perhaps it is time for zero sum budgeting. This was supposed to be a year to give back to the taxpayer with the extra State aid. In Barrington, no way.

ReplyFund all day kindergarten only if the costs can be taken from elsewhere in the budget. Enough of the continual tax increases.

ReplyHowever the backpack express and stacked town meeting will ensure that the school budget is raised once again. It's the Barrington way.

ReplyIn reviewing the test scores, I see three possible outcomes: 1. Scores are down and therefore more money is needed to raise them; 2. Scores remain the same therefore we need to put more money into the budget to get those scores up; or 3. Scores are up and we need to increase funding to address new technology to keep the scores there.

ReplyOne thing that Barrington is extremely good at is spending money. Is it any wonder that our taxes are sky high. Wait for the next round of raises for teachers and you'll need a cocktail when seeing your next tax bill. The Barrington motto: When in Doubt, Spend".

Barrington is what it is - a place for folks with money (and soon to be those subsidized). The middle class put their children through school and look to leave as the sky high (and only getting higher) taxes force their hand. I hate to say it (as I am fully against), but this project has been blessed by the June and Kate show and will be rubber stamped by the Planners. Hold on to your wallets folks.
