ReplyI don't relish the idea of losing money to taxes, but let's face it, it was a temporary measure. I'd rather lose the money now, than leave our children facing trillions of dollars in debt in the future.

ReplyI'd like to add a few words about Jarred. He was adored and loved by his family, and admired by everyone for his great attitude to life and his enduring spirit. Jarred was fortunate to be born into a wonderful extended family, and he lived life to the fullest. We should all be lucky to be so blessed in our own lives. Wishing the Fletchers peace, and the joy of happy memories.

ReplyThe operative phrase being "the rights of ALL citizens", not just the ones who like to drive drunk.

ReplyDrunk driving should be a felony. And if you kill someone while drunk driving, you should be jailed for murder. You don't have a right to drive drunk. A driver's license is a privilege, not a right, and carries with it the responsibility to behave according to laws. If you don't want to be pulled over for random breath testing, then don't drive. As to "unreasonable search". I consider it perfectly reasonable for the police to pull over, question, and breath test, anyone driving erratically, whether it's because they are dodging potholes, texting, chatting to their passengers, eating, or drunk driving. You don't have the right to endanger my life or the life of others just because you have a license and a vehicle. Incidentally, driving tired is a frequent cause of traffic accidents.

I agree. The fact that the administration didn't bother to call parents last night to inform them of what safety measures were being taken, was pretty disappointing. It's also the reason I didn't send my son to school today.

I think it's fairly inflammatory, and extremely inaccurate to call Bristol and Warren a "ghetto of misfit children and parents." I have found that over the last 10 years, the schools in these two towns have increased in excellence, by leaps and bounds. The staff, almost without exception, are caring, dedicated, and excellent at what they do. Your characterization, Kris, serves to denigrate the many teachers, students, and parents, who care about these towns, this school, and our kids.

ReplyI'm curious as to why no mention was made about the person who committed the assault, and what "gang" they are affiliated with. There is a storm brewing about the child who was assaulted, but we've heard very little about the one who beat him bloody. Who instigated this fight? And why? I'd also like to say how very disappointed I am that the school department did not send an automated message around LAST NIGHT about the incident, and what measures they would be taking to keep our children safe. If a bomb threat where no one was harmed merits a message, then this sure does.

While I commend Marlene for her hard work and commitment to savings, I think it's a lot easier to do when you have a well-paying job and no family to care for. Having kids generally means a bigger (more expensive) home and car. It also means much higher grocery and utility bills, and frequently means taking a job that doesn't pay as well in return for family friendly hours. How about profiling a single parent of several children, or a married couple in lower paying jobs.
