Snow, Rain Mix Seems Likely

The most recent forecast seems to indicate that heavy snow will miss most of Rhode Island.

Uncertainty about this weekend’s weather continues. Will it snow and how much? Will it just rain? Will there be a mix? The exact track and strength of the storm moving up the Atlantic coast may not be known for a while yet. But the National Weather Service is forecasting that there is a possibility a winter storm watch will be extended farther south. Several inches of heavy, wet snow seem possible – raising the specter of downed tree limbs causing scattered power outages and causing slippery driving conditions.  The exact forecast for today calls for a chance of snow before 3 pm, then a chance of rain between 3 and 5 pm, then rain and snow likely after 5 pm with less than a half inch of accumulation possible. Weekend Snowfall Still Up in Air

What is definite is that we should see some mix of rain and snow, possibly some heavy, wet snow for a short while. Stay tuned.

The snow is melting away, but more could be on the way this weekend. How much seems very uncertain.  The National Weather Service forecast right now calls for most snow to fall in northern Rhode Island and central and western Massachusetts. WHDH in Boston is calling for a possibility of 4-8 inches in parts of Rhode Island. Exactly what that means for Barrington is uncertain because the storm is still a couple of days away. So, the exact type of precipitation and snowfall amounts remain very uncertain.  There is the potential for heavy wet snow with the heaviest accumulation expected to fall north of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
