Try Again -- Walkabout at Veterans Park

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is hosting a walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning.

Presuming the weather cooperates this week, there will be a walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Feb. 16. The walkabout starts at 10 am near the American Legion Hall on Legion Way. It was postponed from last Saturday by the Blizzard of 2013. “Examine trails and wetlands in preparation for the next phase of park projects to improve trail conditions, close trails where needed, and complete the new trail system,” said Helen Tjader of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. “We will be walking off trail or in wet and snowy conditions as part of our review,” Tjader said. “Check out the elm tree. Veterans Park Walkabout Postponed

The Barrington land trust and trails team walkabout on Saturday has been rescheduled until Feb. 16.

The walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until next Saturday, Feb. 16. Trails Team to Walkabout Vets Park

Barrington's new Town Trails Team will walk through the eastern side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Dec. 1, to identify and plan future work to be done.

Join Barrington’s Town Trails Team on Saturday morning, Dec. 1, for a walkabout in Veterans Memorial Park. The team plans to walk from 9 to 11 am through the eastern side of the park “to examine trails and wetlands in preparation for the next phase of park projects to improve trail conditions, close trails where needed and complete the new trail system,” said Beth Rondeau of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. “We will be walking off trail or in wet conditions as part of our review,” she said. It's 'Family Night' at Veterans Park

Barrington Land Conservation Trust and Bayside YMCA are teaming up to host an 'All Around Summer Family Night' -- one of a host of Land Trust Days being celebrated statewide.

Celebrate one of Barrington's natural wonders today with with the Barrington Land Conservation Trust and the Bayside YMCA. Veterans Memorial Park adjacent to the YMCA will be offering guided trail walks, field games, swimming, music and hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. The event is one of the Rhode Island Land Trust Days that started last Saturday and run for six weeks through Sept. 29. The “All Around Summer Family Night” starts at 4:30 pm. Park in the lot by the YMCA, which lies adjacent to the park. Everything is free of charge. Local Lands Among 'Land Trust Days'

Veterans Memorial Park and Johannis Farm in Barrington are among the preserved natural areas that are part of the RI Land Trust Council's six-week celebration.

Two of the natural areas preserved by the land trust in Barrington are part of the first-ever Rhode Island Land Trust Days that run from Saturday, Aug. 11, to Saturday, Sept. 29. The Land Trust Days, sponsored by the RI Land Trust Council, include six weeks of outdoor activities to celebrate natural areas like Veterans Memorial Park in Barrington and Johannis Farm that are just a short walk away. You can take guided hikes of these natural areas and many more throughout the state, many of which have historic and cultural value above and beyond their natural beauty, according to the Land Trust Council. 'Trails Day' Celebration in Vets Park (Cancelled)

A coalition of Barrington conservation and environmental groups is hosting a celebration of National Trails Day in Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning.

Celebrate “National Trails Day” on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park in Barrington. The Barrington Land Conservation Trust, the Barrington Conservation Commission, the Town of Barrington, the Bayside YMCA and the National Park Service River and Trails Program are sponsoring the celebration. It runs from 10 to 11:30 am. “Join us to see the progress we've made in the restoration and improvements to your community park over the past two years,” said Helen Tjader of the Land Trust. “Walk a brand new trail! Learn about upcoming projects. Check out the new sign kiosks, which include quotes from and about veterans - both local and national.” Veterans Park is “a jewel in Barrington’s necklace of open spaces,” she said. “Find out for yourself.” …

Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum in Bristol, considered one of the finest public gardens in New England, appears to be the favorite "staycation" spot for Barrington Patch readers. Forty percent of Patch readers who voted in this week’s Readers’ Choice poll picked Blithwold, a 45-room mansion on a 33-acre country estate with "mysterious and exotic gardens" that overlook Narragansett Bay.
