What's Open, What's Closed Today?

Some stores in Barrington are open today; government offices, library, schools are closed for Thanksgiving.

It’s Thanksgiving Day. All Barrington government offices, the schools, the public library and the senior center are closed today and Friday, Nov. 23. Federal and state offices are closed as well today, and there is no mail delivery. Some stores and restaurants are open, though. So, if you need a few last-minute supplies, or you need to fill a prescription, or you need a cup of coffee on your way to the football game, you can find it. And you can fill up your tank with gas for that trip to grandma's house. Show Us Your Best Thanksgiving Dish

Is it a pumpkin pie? A well-dressed turkey? Show us your favorite Thanksgiving dish!

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks. It's also a time when cooks, chefs and kitchen-lovers grab hold of the nearest recipe box and try their skill at making a culinary masterpiece.  Some well-skilled cooks slave over stoves all day to prepare a magnificent turkey, while novices try for the first time to craft candied yams or a homemade cranberry sauce. Whatever your cooking skill, we want to see what you are making this Thanksgiving. Upload photos of your best dishes to this gallery by clicking the green "upload photos and videos" button above!

Poll: What's the Best Holiday of the Year?

Let's hear it for Thanksgiving!

Nothing beats Thanksgiving. But that’s just me. The food. The football. The tradition. The desserts. The family. The Thursday leading into the long weekend. Did I mention the desserts? Like the chocolate pecan pie? For me, they’ve always combined to create the best holiday of the year.  But I know that’s not universal. Some are partial to Christmas. Others like the summer holidays. For me, it’s always been Thanksgiving. What about you?

The kids dressed as Native Americans or Pilgrims, and demonstrated a Native American dance for the parents and grandparents who attended. After the meal, there was plenty of opportunity for families to take photos in front of the wigwam and totem pole set up at one end of the classroom. Stoner said she has been doing the special Thanksgiving meal for her students for at least the last 20 years. It provides for educational experiences as…

TAP-IN is gearing up again to provide Thanksgiving meals for East Bay families.  Last year, thanks to the generosity of people in Barrington, Bristol, Warren and East Providence, and with the help of the Salvation Army and the Elks Lodge of Bristol, 425 families received a bag of food and a gift card to prepare their Thanksgiving meal.  TAP-IN is calling upon your generosity again to ensure that each family in the area can enjoy a meal on the holiday.  If your school, athletic team, club or place of worship would like to help TAP-IN, send an email via their website -- www.tapinri.org -- or call 401-247-1444. You may also drop off your own contribution of food or a grocery store gift card at TAP-IN's location at 281 County Road in …
