St. Luke's Pupils Get Law Lesson

A Superior Court judge and an attorney teach kids at the Barrington school on RI Law Day

A Superior Court judge and a Riverside attorney taught some lessons on the law at St. Luke’s School in Barrington last Friday morning. The lessons were taught as part of Rhode Island Law Day, sponsored by the Rhode Island Bar Association and the Rhode Island Judiciary. Judge Stephen P. Nugent and attorney Dean G. Robinson taught a lesson on “Equality Under the Law: Civil Rights in the United States” – the theme of this year’s law day. They presented information aimed at “soliciting student opinions, surfacing the legal issues relating to the topic, and reviewing the role of judges and lawyers” in addressing the teacher's choice of the following issues: 1) Police Questioning/Right to Arrest: Does a police officer or other individual ever …

'Trot Off Your Turkey' at Starting Line

The 13th annual road race and walk of St. Luke's School will be held again this year two days after Thanksgiving; the pre-registration price good through Nov. 19.

A Barrington road race that has become part family reunion and part homecoming will be be held this year on the same day it always runs -- the Saturday after Thanksgiving, or Nov. 24 this year. "We have close to 1,000 runners each year," said Denise Languirand, a new co-chair with Anne Lyden of the 13th annual Trot Off Your Turkey 5K and 1.5 Mile Run/Walk. "It will be very much like the same race as in the past." Pre-registration prices continue through Nov. 19, Languirand said. Click here to go to the race website. St. Luke's School Pupils JAM

Eighth-graders at the Barrington school teach all students how to do JAM -- Just a Minute fitness -- in the classroom.

There was quite a bit of "jamming" going on at St. Luke's School in Barrington last Friday morning. It was actually an eighth-grade fitness project with the acronym JAM -- Just a Minute. Physical education teacher Jessica Williams taught the eighth-graders a few fitness exercises that they then taught to their fellow students. See the video for a up-close view.

School Is Cool for St. Luke's Pupil

Tiernan Burke made his first day as a kindergarten pupil a bit more memorable than most.

Tiernan Burke began his first day as a kindergartner at St Luke's School in Barrington with a memorable entrance, according to his father. He was one of the 250 pupils from pre-K to 8th grade to be welcomed back by St. Luke's last week -- the start of the 2012-2013 school year.

Trot Off Your Turkey at 12th Annual Road Race

Road race/walk that starts at St. Luke's School on the Saturday after Thanksgiving has become a Barrington tradition.

More than 1,000 runners and walkers are expected for what has become a holiday tradition for many Barrington residents. It's the annual Trot Off Your Turkey 5K and 1.5 Mile Run/Walk on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26. Registration is well underway for the 10 am events. Started by Barrington moms Jill Bogdanovic and Lynne Dolan as a way to welcome St Luke’s alumni back to the community at Thanksgiving, the annual turkey trot raises funds for St Luke’s School, and much-needed food for families within the community. Entry fees for the road race go to support the non-profit school, and participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which are donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
