Have you cleared your sidewalk yet? Barrington police officers will begin checking sidewalks today to make sure they are cleared of snow, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. A town ordinance mandates that sidewalks be cleared by 6 pm on the day after a storm ends. The Blizzard of 2013 ended Saturday afternoon. That means the deadline was 6 pm Sunday. “Officers are going to be driving around and noticing sidewalks that are not cleared,” said LaCross. “They will be knocking on doors, especially in the commercial area of town. You could get a $50 fine.” LaCross estimated that 40 percent of sidewalks were cleared of snow on Sunday. So there were a lot of sidewalks left to be cleared. Why don't the police fine the DPW for doing such an atrocious job plowing the streets!! I have never seen such shoddy plowing in my life! Maple Avenue was practically impassable until late in the day yesterday. (As in after 6pm)   more ›
