Rhode Island State Police announced the results of "Operation Iceberg," which charged eight Rhode Islanders with possession of child pornography.
A Barrington man, 57, was among eight Rhode Island residents arrested by the State Police on child pornography charges on Tuesday, April 30. State Police officers presented John Licciardello, of 65 Prospect St., for arraignment in Sixth District Court, Warwick, on one count each of possession and transfer of child pornography. Col. Steven O'Donnell said in a statement that the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led an undercover operation, called "Operation Iceberg," that identified the eight men. O’Donnell, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, announced today that during the upcoming New Year’s holiday, the Rhode Island State Police, through funding obtained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Office on Highway Safety, will have additional patrols throughout the state. Today, Sept. 19, is “National Don’t Text and Drive Day.” In Rhode Island, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation and AT&T will mark the day by kicking off the “Txtng & Drivng…It Can Wait” public awareness campaign at Cranston High School East. Kilmartin, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, transportation officials, the RI State Police, and others will talk about the dangers of distracted driving and share a documentary on the topic from 9:30 to 10:30 am. After the documentary, students will be asked to sign a pledge that they will not text while driving.

A Barrington police officer pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, Aug. 30, after his arrest early this morning by the Rhode Island State Police for allegedly threatening his ex-wife, according to WPRI TV. Sgt. Joseph Andreozzi, 45, pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic disorderly conduct. Andreozzi and his ex-wife reportedly were arguing on the phone when he allegedly threatened her late Wednesday night, according to WPRI-TV. She contacted Barrington police and left her home, where Andreozzi reportedly showed up a short time later. There was no physical altercation, said the state police, who were called in for reasons of impartiality. Andreozzi was released after his arraignment and given a no-contact order.

The Labor Day weekend and the weeks before it are prime time for Rhode Island students of all ages to be heading back to school.
