Eagles Move Up a Spot in Grid Poll

La Salle remains in the top spot, and they remain undefeated; No. 4-ranked Portsmouth plays Barrington tonight at Victory Field.

Back after a week’s absence – thanks Sandy! – not much has changed in the top six of the Rhode Island high school football media poll. Although the order has switched around a bit, La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth remain the top four in the state. La Salle remains undefeated, while the other three have traded wins and losses against one another. Barrington High goes up against one of the top four tonight. Portsmouth, ranked No. 4, comes to Victory Field to tangle with the Eagles. Barrington is ranked at No. 8 with a 3-4 record in the division and 4-6 overall. Portsmouth is 5-2 in the division and 8-2 overall. Behind the top four in Division I lurk the best two teams – so far – in Division II, Johnston and Cumberland. …

Eagles Face Top-Ranked La Salle

La Salle takes all 14 first place votes in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll; Barrington is next up Friday night for the top-ranked Rams.

All 14 first place votes went to No. 1 La Salle this week -- Barrington's foe tonight -- after No. 3 Hendricken took its first loss of the season, 39-13, to No. 2 Portsmouth. Barrington dropped from two places to No. 9 even though the Eagles beat South Kingstown on the road, 14-7. SK is unranked, though, which hurt the Eagles, now 4-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in the conference. La Salle is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Barrington now must tangle with top-ranked La Salle tonight in Providence in what will surely be the Eagles' toughest game of the season so far. The win puts the Patriots in good position for a home game in the Division I playoffs, as long as they can win Friday against No. 4 Cranston East. The Thunderbolts can…

Eagles Stay at No. 7 in Grid Poll Despite Loss

The top seven remain unchanged in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll; Barrington plays South Kingstown tonight, Oct. 19, on the road.

Inaction is the new action, as the top seven remain unchanged in the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, after a weekend of mostly winning. Barrington High School remained in the No. 7 spot despite a 33-21 loss to Tolman High on the road in Pawtucket, which dropped the Eagles' record to 2-2 in the league and 3-4 overall. The Eagles head to South County tonight, Oct 19, to tangle with South Kingstown at 7 pm at Curtis Corner Middle School. South Kingstown sits in the 21st spot well out of the top 20. No. 3 Cranston East lost, but it was to Hendricken, and while they lost a first place vote and about 25 points in the polls, it wasn’t enough to drop below No. 4 Portsmouth. The win over Barrington helped the Tigers jump two spots in the …

Eagles Move Up 3 Spots in Grid Poll

Barrington High moves back up in the football poll to No. 6; La Salle still ranked No. 1.

La Salle is still ranked No. 1 in the state, but Hendricken is gaining, and Cranston East also remains in the hunt for the top ranking in the fourth week of the Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll. Barrington High School moved up three spots in the poll to No. 6 in Rhode Island after a 35-15 win over East Providences last Saturday. The Eagles take on Bishop Feehan of Attleboro tonight at 7 in a non-division clash at Victory Field. The top four of the poll remain unchanged, as La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth all won their games. The Johnston Panthers round out the top five, thanks to a 48-0 drubbing of Toll Gate. Shea (No. 15) and Coventry (No. 20) are new to the poll this week. Shea had an impressive win against…

Eagles Move Back Up Grid Rankings

Barrington shut out Cranston West, 14-0, at Victory Field last week to improve to 1-1; the Eagels travel to Cranston East for a Saturday afternoon game this week.

Barrington moved up to a tie for fourth place with Portsmouth  in the Rhode Island high school football media poll this week after beating Cranston West 14-0, according to the Barrington Times. The Eagles were ranked 9th a week ago after opening the season with a close loss at Westerly. The win evens the Eagles' record at 1-1 overall, and 1-0 in Division I. Westerly, ranked 6th, is a Division II school. So, where does Barrington belong in Division I? Are they a playoff team that just happened to get beat by a tough Division II squad on the road? There is no question about No. 1 ranked La Salle. Thanks to an impressive win over No. 3 Portsmouth, top-ranked La Salle has solidified its grip on the No. 1 spot in the latest poll. La Salle …
