Fishing Season Opens This Saturday

The Department of Environmental Management will open the freshwater fishing season on Saturday, April 13.

  Fishing enthusiasts around the state will be up before dawn this Saturday in anticipation of the start of freshwater fishing season. The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish & Wildlife has announced that the beginning of the 2013 trout and general freshwater fishing season will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 13. More than 20,000 anglers are expected to turn out at dawn on opening day. DEM has stocked up more than 100 ponds and streams across the state with 80,000 hatchery-raised brook, brown and rainbow trout with an average weight of 1.5 lbs.  Brickyard Pond in Barrington is one of the waters stocked by DEM. Shotgun Deer Hunting Season Begins

All hunters are reminded to wear fluorescent orange throughout shotgun deer hunting season in RI, which begins on Saturday, Dec. 1.

  The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) reminds all Rhode Islanders that, for safety reasons, they must wear fluorescent orange when in state management areas during the shotgun deer hunting season, which opens on Saturday, Dec. 1. Hunters are required to wear 500 square inches of fluorescent orange during the shotgun season. Throughout all shotgun deer seasons, all other users of state management areas also must wear at least 500 square inches of solid, daylight fluorescent orange material. For all hunters and management area users, the orange clothing should include a hat and vest worn above the waist and visible in all directions.   Archers are exempt from wearing hunter orange in areas of the state that are limited to …
