Name Park Designed for Police Cove

The committee that has been working with a land-use consultant to build a new park at Police Cove in Barrington is now looking for an appropriate name for the park.

Name the park being built at Police Cove in Barrington. The Police Cove Park Committee is looking for some help in coming up with an appropriate name for the property. Submit your suggestion by May 15 to Town Planner Phil Hervey at phervey@barrington.ri.gov. Construction of the park is slated to begin soon. It will sit on the property just west of the Andreozzi Bridge over the Barrington River -- known for more than six decades as Police Cove because it is the former location of the Barrington Police Department. The police department moved to Federal Road in 1999 when the Public Safety Complex was completed. Public Art, Contest to Name Park at Police Cove on Committee's Table

Police Cove committee meets Wednesday to finalize details for public art, food trucks and a contest to name the new park.

The ad hoc committee that has designed a new park for Barrington's Police Cove -- a site on County Road near the Andreozzi Bridge over the Barrington River -- meets tomorrow night, March 27, in Town Hall. The meeting starts at 7 pm in the Council Chamber on the second floor. The agenda includes three items of business that dominated discussion at the February meeting: A new item of business involves the storage of the floating docks that are part of the design for the park. The committee is already soliciting public art projects for the park through the callforentry.org -- a national arts website that works with municipalities to solicit permanent art projects for public spaces. Park at Police Cove to Get Public Art, Food Trucks, New Name

A name for the proposed park on the Barrington River near the East Bay Bike Path at the Andreozzi Bridge also is expected to come out of a community contest.

The ad hoc committee that has designed a park at Police Cove in Barrington plans to solicit public art projects for the park through the callforentry.org website. The committee also will be distributing a request for proposals (RFP) for mobile trucks to sell food at the park, which lies between the East Bay Bike Path and the Andreozzi Bridge over the river. And the committee will hold a contest to name the park. Details for the public art, food vendors and contest will not to be finalized until the next meeting in March. Police Cove Meeting Postponed

The Monday meeting of Barrington's Police Cove park planning committee called off because of Hurricane Sandy.

  The meeting Monday evening, Oct. 29, of the Barrington Police Cove committee has been postponed. "Due to the potential for severe weather conditions on Monday evening," said Town Planner Phil Hervey, the meeting will be rescheduled. "We’ll follow up soon with a new date for this meeting," he said.

Police Cove Park Plans Tweaked

The committee working with a consultant to build the park at Police Cove also wants to seek public art proposals and a possible name for the new Barrington park.

After a summer hiatus, about half of the committee charged with designing a park at Police Cove in Barrington got back together Tuesday night, Sept. 18, in the Town Hall with its consultant to look over final site plans. The group perused 17 pages of site plans described by the consultant, Steve Derderian of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc., as “about 85 percent complete.” The committee members also viewed a variety of suggestions for LED lighting fixtures and poles, benches, bike and boat racks, picnic tables, shade features and concrete pavement. They chatted about adding some “public art” to the park between the East Bay Bike Path and the Andreozzi Bridge off of County Road. And they agreed to solicit prospective names for the 1-acre site …

The committee that has been designing Police Cove park meets at 7 pm in the Council Chamber in Town Hall to put some finishing touches on the plan for it and to come up with a way to name the outdoor venue. The Barrington Housing Board of Trustees meets at 7 pm in the Barrington library meeting room. Take in a movie at the Barrington Senior Center at 12:30 pm every Tuesday. Another tennis cardio-fusion class will be held at 6 pm at the courts at Chianese Memorial Park on Centennial Street; it will move indoors to Centre Court if it rains. Triton Swimming offers workouts for intermediate and advance swimmers at 5:30 am at Barrington Beach or the East Providence Boys and Girls Club.

The committee, consultants and town planner met Tuesday evening to take the first steps toward making a park at Police Cove in Barrington a reality.

The fun has begun for the committee and consultants designing a new park at Police Cove in Barrington. Members of the Police Cove Park Committee met with the consultants from Vanasse Hanglin Brustlin and Town Planner Phil Hervey Tuesday evening to iron out details for the final plan and to look at potential amenities, such as benches and shrubs and pavement materials. The group also heard a brief presentation from Bill Dessel, owner of Billy’s Restaurant in Barrington and Billy’s food truck, on criteria that should be used for selecting food vendors to set up in the park.
