Park at Police Cove to Get Public Art, Food Trucks, New Name

A name for the proposed park on the Barrington River near the East Bay Bike Path at the Andreozzi Bridge also is expected to come out of a community contest.

The ad hoc committee that has designed a park at Police Cove in Barrington plans to solicit public art projects for the park through the callforentry.org website. The committee also will be distributing a request for proposals (RFP) for mobile trucks to sell food at the park, which lies between the East Bay Bike Path and the Andreozzi Bridge over the river. And the committee will hold a contest to name the park. Details for the public art, food vendors and contest will not to be finalized until the next meeting in March. But the committee spent a couple of hours Monday night reviewing drafts for the public art solicitation and food vendor RFP and agreeing that the park should be re-named with help from the community. Callforentry.org is a …

Renaming 'Police Cove', Food Truck Rules on Park Committee Table

The Barrington committee designing a new park at 'police cove' meets tonight in Town Hall with some unfinished business.

The ad hoc committee that has designed a new park for Police Cove in Barrington meets tonight, Feb. 25, in Town Hall. The group's first meeting since last fall will take place in the Council Chamber. It starts at 7 pm. The agenda includes three items of unfinished business, according to Town Planner Phil Hervey: The committee envisions utilizing the future park as a site for shows, exhibitions and built-in art works. The committee has already built into the design for the park a location for food trucks and vendors to set up shop. But it still must determine the interest with a request for proposal (RFP) to be sent out to potential vendors, and guidelines to handle any food trucks. The committee also is leaning toward renaming the park …

Let's play out a typical weekend "art show". Assuming there will be about 7 artists, that takes 7 parking spots away. Of course it's the weekend and so the people fishing off the bridge will show up early, so let's take another 7 parking spots away. And the people using the bike path who also arrive early will take another 7 - 10 more parking spots away. So on a typical "art show" weekend, there …   more ›

There's no public comment period on the agenda, nor is it a public hearing. It's a meeting of the committee. Any other boards and/or subcommittees of any other boards would need to post their own agenda, of course. Gosh, with all those smart people in the room the issues that need to be addressed (as set forth here) are sure to be raised by someone on the committee, right? The minutes are not …   more ›

Police Cove Park Plans Tweaked

The committee working with a consultant to build the park at Police Cove also wants to seek public art proposals and a possible name for the new Barrington park.

After a summer hiatus, about half of the committee charged with designing a park at Police Cove in Barrington got back together Tuesday night, Sept. 18, in the Town Hall with its consultant to look over final site plans. The group perused 17 pages of site plans described by the consultant, Steve Derderian of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc., as “about 85 percent complete.” The committee members also viewed a variety of suggestions for LED lighting fixtures and poles, benches, bike and boat racks, picnic tables, shade features and concrete pavement. They chatted about adding some “public art” to the park between the East Bay Bike Path and the Andreozzi Bridge off of County Road. And they agreed to solicit prospective names for the 1-acre site …
