The Barrington restaurant on County Road expected to be able to open its doors for business after an electrical fire in the basement filled the first floor with smoke.
The Newport Creamery on County Road was expected to be open for business again at 7 am today. “We have a clean bill of health,” said Janice Mathews, a vice president for the restaurant chain, late Tuesday morning. She was referring to inspections of the building in the Village Center plaza after it was closed all day Tuesday from a small electrical fire in the basement on Monday night, Feb. 25. The fire produced smoke primarily -- no real damage except to a storage area in the basement. “Except for the smell,” said Mathews, “it really was nothing.” Mathews said she was told the store manager used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze. A basement fire caused almost no damage to the Newport Creamery restaurant on County Road in Barrington late Monday night but it did close adjacent businesses Tuesday morning.
A basement fire found after closing Monday night caused almost no damage to the Newport Creamery restaurant in Barrington. The fire did shut down all of the businesses in the Village Center along County Road until mid-Tuesday morning. But they were back open by late morning after inspectors restored electrical power to the building. Barrington Fire Department Lt. Jason Fanion, the incident commander, said: "We received a 911 call for a reported basement fire from a worker (about 10 pm). When I arrived on scene there was heavy smoke on the entire first floor.
