Fifth-graders at Hampden Meadows School cut a ribbon on their 'Green Garden' planted outside the school.
Fifth-graders at Hampden Meadows School in Barrington cut the ribbon on a “Green Garden” last Friday afternoon, June 15. You won’t see tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce or carrots in their garden, though. You will see plenty of trash collected over the past year and turned into artistic treasures that teach environmental lessons. “The children saw trash scattered around the school,” said Jennifer Reynolds, whose class created the Green Garden. “They made a proposal to Arlene (Principal Arlene Miguel) and Skip (Skip Learned, facilities director for Barrington schools) to create the garden.” The pupils then began designing the garden, using their science, math and environmental literacy education, Reynolds said. And they began collecting items …

Barrington Town Council awards a contract to construct sidewalks and a bike lane on Kent Street to make walking or biking to Hampden Meadows School safer.
Fourth- and fifth-graders at Hampden Meadows School in Barrington should have safer road to walk or bike along within a few months. The Town Council approved on Monday night a $174,000 contract with Manuel R. Pavao Contractor for construction of sidewalks and other improvements near the school. Kent Street has no sidewalks at all right now -- only grass and dirt shoulders. The sidewalk and bike lane will …

29 Hampden Meadows School students dance Tuesday night on the Providence Performing Arts Center stage.
More than two dozen Hampden Meadows School students got a chance to dance at PPAC (Providence Performing Arts Center) Tuesday night. The opportunity came through the program called Chance to Dance, said Sarah O’Brien, a parent. “You can check out their website for information on their mission,” she said. In short, Chance to Dance is a 26-year-old project operated by the Rhode Island Dance Alliance that brings dance and live accompaniment into Hampden Meadows and other schools in the state on a weekly basis throughout the year, O’Brien said. “The early-morning enrichment program is an opportunity for kids who wouldn't necessarily be in typical dance classes,” she said. There are no tights and special shoes required. Anyone can join for the …

Barrington police are continuing an investigation into the entry of Hampden Meadows School on Saturday afternoon by four teens.
Barrington police are continuing an investigation into the illegal entry of the Hampen Meadows School late Saturday afternoon, May 12, by four teens, ages 14 to 19 -- one a former student. The entry was discovered after an alarm signaled the alarm company. The firm reported to Barrington police that multiple voices were heard inside the school near a janitor’s closet and two classrooms, and outside the building, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. Four patrol officers responded to the school. The teens were two males, ages 17 and 19, and two females, ages 14 and 16. The car they parked near the playground is licensed in Connecticut, LaCross said. The teens entered the school through a boiler-room door that apparently was unlocked, …
