Barrington Legislators Sworn In Again

The 2013-2014 session of the General Assembly begins New Year's Day with a swearing-in ceremony and the re-election of Gordon Fox as House Speaker and Teresa Paiva Weed as Senate President.

Barrington's Rhode Island legislators were formally sworn into office again on Tuesday, Jan. 1, as the 2013-2014 session of the Rhode Island General Assembly convened. Sen. David Bates (R-32) and Reps. Joy Hearn (D-66) and Jan Malik (D-67) took the oath of office from Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis. The Senate began its legislative year with a program of activities that included the re-election of M. Teresa Paiva Weed as President of the Senate. The House of Representatives began its legislative year with a program of activities that included the re-election of Rep. Gordon D. Fox as the Speaker of the House. Sharing Services Eyed by Legislators

The General Assembly is looking at how municipalities can share services to cut costs.

The following is from a State House press release.  The Rhode Island General Assembly has set up a special commissions to study the possibiligy of municipalities and school districts sharing services. The new Joint Commission on Shared Municipal Services will make recommendations to the General Assembly on legislation that could help cities and towns cut the costs involved in providing municipal services by getting together and sharing them. Created by legislation (2011-S 0171, 2011-H 5715) sponsored last year by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma and Rep. Raymond E.
