You’ve probably noticed Barrington’s weather station on the roof of the library – the highest point in town. It’s actually your own personal weather station, too – really, it can be. For about two years now, the sensors on the roof have been keeping track of Barrington’s average daily wind speed and direction, the barometric pressure, the temperature, the solar intensity, and four other weather conditions. The date is being compiled to answer questions that will help Barrington determine if it can come up with a viable source of renewable energy, such as a wind turbine or solar panels. Barrington Town Council meets today at 7 pm; development of power-generating solar field and renewal of Haines Park lease among items on the agenda.
At its delayed May meeting tonight, the Town Council will hear a proposal to develop a power-generating solar field at a landfill on Upland Way to generate revenue for the town. The Town Council also will be asked tonight to renew the lease agreement for Haines Memorial State Park. The councilors also will be asked to take action on two other leases: a one-year extension on the lease for Vitullo Farm off of Wampanoag Trail, and a vote at the Financial Town Meeting next week on a proposed extension of the lease that allows Four Town Farm to farm town land in the Nockum Hill area.
