The annual charity golf tournament will be held for the 15th consecutive year at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington on June 24-25.
Some of the golf greats who will play in this June’s CVS Caremark Charity Classic in Barrington were revealed Monday at a press conference in Providence. Professional golfers Brad Faxon of Barrington and Billy Andrade of Bristol, founders and co-hosts of the tournament, did the unveiling for the 15th annual event. It runs June 24-25 at the Rhode Island Country Club with the Pepsi Pro-Am set for the Sunday (June 23) before the start. Headlining the event are PGA TOUR stars Bubba Watson, a Masters winner; Rickie Fowler, and Steve Stricker. Watson, who won the event with partner Camilo Villegas in 2008, returns for his third tournament appearance. Seventy-seven area nonprofit organizations -- including seven Barrington organizations -- got a welcome holiday boost last week as they received funds generated from the CVS Caremark Charity Classic in Barrington. The tournament, Rhode Island’s largest charitable sporting event, raised $1.2 million this year for charities across Southern New England, bringing the total funds raised since its inception to more than $16 million. The 14th CVS Caremark Charity Classic ended its three-day run at Rhode Island Country Club yesterday.
The 14th CVS Caremark Charity Classic ended its annual three-day run at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington Tuesday afternoon. Here are some scenes and shots you missed if you didn't spend at least some time at the tournament, which has been raising more than a million dollars a year for charities throughout Rhode Island and southern New England. The tournament is expected to return to Rhode Island Country Club next year even as the contract with CVS Caremark expires this year and even as attendance has been dwindling. CVS CEO Larry Merlo indicated in his remarks as the closing ceremony Tuesday that the corporation will continue its support of the tournament. See the video and photo gallery above.

Morgan Pressel and Jay Haas broke a three-way tie for first at Rhode Island Country Club to win the 14th CVS Caremark Charity Classic Tuesday afternoon.
The “scramble” format – players play the best ball -- suits Morgan Pressel and Jay Haas just fine. The team shot a 59 over the final 18 holes of the CVS Caremark Charity Classic on Tuesday to take the 14th title of the tournament held each year at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington. They were presented with a glass trophy on the 18th green by co-hosts Brad Faxon of Barrington and Billy Andrade of Bristol. The 14th CVS Caremark Charity Classic got off to a laughter-filled start Monday morning, June 18. At the Rhode Island Country Club, the annual “players clinic” provided plenty of fun and trick-shot making. It set the stage under blue skies and in 70-degree temperatures for the 10:30 am start to the tourney. Brad Faxon of Barrington and Billy Andrade of Bristol, the two-day tournament’s founders and co-hosts, introduced the 18 professional golfers and 8 amateurs who joined them on the course on day one. The CVS Caremark Charity Classic at Rhode Island Country Club continues with the always popular clinic at the 18th green at 9:15 am. Tee times today at 10:30 am. The Barrington Community School offers an 8-week outdoor T'ai Chi class at Haines Memorial State Park, led by Bob McManus, at 8:45 am. Classes will meet at St. John's Episcopal Church when it rains. The Recreation Department offers an open gym every Monday at 7:30 pm for basketball players 16 and over, men and women, in the Barrington Middle School. Eight amateur golfers from the CVS Caremark Charity Classic’s Sunday Pepsi Pro-Am qualified Sunday to move on to the second annual Pepsi MAX Amateur Shootout, and will tee it up on Monday among the tournament’s main field professional teams. Both winning pro-am teams featured one of the LPGA pros playing in the main field. Helena Foulkes (Providence), Executive Vice President and Chief Health Care Strategy and Marketing Officer for CVS Caremark, and her teammates Colin Armstrong (Sydney, Australia), Kevin Tassinari (Andover, Mass.) and Rick Hayward (Hampden, Maine) finished at the top of the pack in the morning shotgun at 19-under-par 52. The Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington becomes a stop again on the professional golf tour starting today, June 17. The CVS Caremark Charity Classic returns to the Nayatt Road country club for the 14th consecutive year. It runs through Tuesday, June 19. Founders and co-hosts Brad Faxon of Barrington and Billy Andrade of Bristol will be joined by 18 other pro golfers for two rounds of golf and the Sunday Pipsi Pro-Am that sets the stage for classic play on Monday and Tuesday.
