'Bearded Bandit' Pleads Guilty

Justin Worley, 34, pleaded guilty to nine counts of bank robbery, including two in Barrington, in U.S. District Court on Thursday.

The so-called “Bearded Bandit” pleaded guilty to nine counts of bank robbery, including two in Barrington, in U.S. District Court in Providence on Thursday, March 7, according to U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha. Justin L. Worley, 34, was arrested at a Seekonk motel last September by East Providence and Seekonk police. He got the handle of "Bearded Bandit" because he wore the same dark beard and, usually, a knit hat as a disguise. He admitted to U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith, according to the U.S. Attorney, that he robbed eight banks in Rhode Island between April 16 and Sept. 18 last year and one in Seekonk in February, 2012, walking away with $32,633. Police Nab 'Bearded Bandit' Suspect

The man was living with his girlfriend and a three-year-old child in Motel 6 in Seekonk; his beard appears to have been part of a disguise.

Police believe they have caught the infamous 'Bearded Bandit,' responsible for a string of bank heists across the region, including the Bank of America and TD Bank in Barrington. Following up on a lead, police apprehended a man staying at the Motel 6 in Seekonk, Mass., according to reports from East Bay Newspapers. His girlfriend and a three-year-old child were living in the room with him, according to eastbayri. Police believe his beard was a diguise to conceal his identity as they found a fake one among his belongings. Police have refrained from releasing his identity.  Patch will follow up with this story.

Help Wanted to ID 'Bearded Bandit'

‘Bearded Bandit’ has robbed 6 banks in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, including Bank of America in Barrington.

Federal, state and local police agencies working through the Commonwealth Fusion Center in Massachusetts, as well as law enforcement agencies in Rhode Island, are seeking your help in identifying a man who has robbed six banks since February 2012, including Bank of America in Barrington. Because of the man’s appearance, he has been dubbed “The Bearded Bandit.” Five of the robberies occurred in Rhode Island and his first was in Massachusetts.  The robberies occured approximately 30 days apart, usually between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. During each robbery, he claims to have a gun, but does not show it.  The suspect is a white male who appears to be in his 30s or 40s and is approximately 5’10” tall.
