'We Bought the Paint, They Provided the Labor'

A group of eight workers at Atria Bay Spring Village who do community service projects recently repainted the Barrington Senior Center.

The Barrington Senior Center got a major touch-up recently -- thanks to volunteers at the Atria Bay Spring Village who do community service projects. “A group of eight volunteers painted the main room of the center,” said Senior Center Director Louis House, who grabbed a roller herself. House described the touch-up as a “painting party” that came about from an informal conversation with an Atria employee, who said she would run it past volunteers at the village who do community service projects. “A couple of days later,” said House, “I got a call. "I've actually asked the police to patrol the lot a couple of days a week," House said. The Senior Center director said she doesn'…

Dozens of senior citizens celebrated the summer solstice on Wednesday, June 20, at the Barrington Senior Center by enjoying traditional summer favorites. Clam cakes, chowder and watermelon were served courtesy of the St. Elizabeth Community, which operates Cornerstone Adult Services, said Louise House, director of the senior center. Liz Dietz, a community relations officer with St. Elizabeth, said the nonprofit often uses celebrations like the first day of summer to introduce its nursing, rehabilitation and health services to senior citizens. "It was a great opportunity for us to let the seniors know that Saint Elizabeth Manor in Bristol not only provides long term care, but has a short term rehab unit should they need care following a …
