'Men Who Cook' Do It Well Again

The Barrington Presbyterian Church hosted its annual Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras-like feast last night to benefit TAP-IN and the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless.

The Barrington Presbyterian Church hosted its annual Men Who Cook community dinner on "Fat Tuesday" evening last night to raise money for TAP-IN and the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless. The event is loosely based on "Mardi Gras" in New Orleans. A variety of mouth-watering entrees and desserts were served, including shrimp etouffee, gumbo, chasen's chili, coquille St. Jacques, pork creole, red beans and rice, pecan pie, cheescakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, key lime pie and fresh fruits and tortes. Jack Hartwein-Sanchez, a New Orleans native who has been the dessert chef for the event for many years, did double duty this year as the emcee as well. 'Men Who Cook' at It Again Tuesday

The Barrington Presbyterian Church hosts its annual community dinner on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 pm.

It's Fat Tuesday on Tuesday, Feb. 12. That means it’s time for the annual "Men Who Cook" community dinner at Barrington Presbyterian Church. The dinner usually raises about $1,500 each year for TAP-IN and the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless. It starts at 6:30 pm in the church function room, 400 County Road. There are always a variety of mouth-watering entrees, vegetables and salads and an assortment of desserts that always tend to be a highlight of the event. Jack Hartwein-Sanchez has been the dessert chef for the event for many years. Last year, he whipped up strawberries dipped in dark and white chocolate, cherries dipped in chocolate, pecan pie, key lime pie, three separate cheesecakes and carrot cake topped with edible flowers. …

'Deo Gloria!' to Present Christmas Music

The Barrington Presbyterian Church Music Program presents an hour-long Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9.

  Enhance your Christmas season with beautiful music this Sunday. The Barrington Presbyterian Church Music Program will present a concert, "Deo Gloria!," on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9. It starts at 3 pm. The hour-long concert will include choral, solo and instrumental Christmas pieces composed by a wide range of composers, said John Black, organist and music and choir director. Old favorites, classical pieces and lesser-known works from composers such as Johann Pachelbel, Henry Purcell and John Rutter will be presented, said Black. "You'll hear old favorites and learn some new pieces, too," he said. "Admission is free; a freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Music Program." Church Seeks Youth Choir Singers

The Barrington Presbyterian Church on County Road is forming a youth choir for any child in the community.

A youth choir is being formed at Barrington Presbyterian Church. Membership in the church is not required. “This ensemble is a terrific, cost-free way for children to gain knowledge of and appreciation for music,” said John Black, orgainist and director of music and choir. The choir’s first rehearsal will be on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 11:20 am. Rehearsals will be  held weekly from September through June, according to Black. Sing in Church Choir for Summer

The Barrington Presbyterian Church is offering singers a chance to sing in a summer choir.

If you love to sing, this opportunity may be for you this summer. The Barrington Presbyterian Church is hosting a summer choir open to anyone of high-school age and older who loves to sing, according to John Black, music and choir director. The choir will run from this Sunday, July 15 through Aug. 19. “All you have to do is show up at 9 am for a quick practice (30 minutes), and stay to sing in the 10 am worship service,” said Black. “This will be a non-membership ensemble, so there is no long-term commitment; you are welcome to sing as often or as seldom as you like.” The music to be sung is "simple worship music in an easy to read format," he said. “Musical selections are beautiful traditional sacred pieces that are very easy to learn …

The Barrington Presbyterian Church offered an instrumental and choral concert of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Scores of music-lovers spent last Sunday afternoon, June 3, with Mozart. The Barrington Presbyterian Church presented a concert of instrumental and choral music written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The concert was part of the music program of the church. Selections came from Mozart’s “Vesperae Solennes de Confessore” and were performed by the Chancel Choir.
