The BAY Team and the Barrington Police Department are hosting another opportunity to rid your home of unwanted and expired prescription drugs.
Empty your medicine cabinet of unwanted and expired prescription drugs on Saturday, April 27. The BAY Team and the Barrington Police Department are hosting another “Drug Take Back” day in the lobby of the police station on Federal Road. It runs from 10 am to 2 pm. All of the potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs will be picked by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and destroyed. The service is free and anonymous. Barrington Police Chief John LaCross is asking for your help in stopping a spate of recent burglaries, including four while homeowners were sleeping.
Barrington's police chief is asking for your help in catching burglars who have pulled off a spate of nightime thefts -- including at least four in unlocked homes while the residents were sleeping. Anyone who may have information about the burglaries that began occurring in Barrington in February is asked to contact the police department, said Police Chief John LaCross. "Homes that have been entered are located in three different neighborhoods on Mathewson Road, Chapman Lane, Joyce Street, Baron Road, Thomas Street and Birch Lane," LaCross said. "Most of these have happened overnight," he said. "At least 4 houses were entered that were unlocked and the residents were sleeping." Anyone providing information which leads to the arrest of …

But the email-attached virus never reached confidential information and no data was lost, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.
A virus repeatedly attacked the Barrington Police Department computers last weekend. The virus is believed to have gotten into the system attached to an email sent to the police chief by a legitimate payroll company. “It was opened by mistake and started to look at files,” said Police Chief John LaCross. “But we have software and firewalls in place to detect viruses. A firewall picked it up and cleared it out.” LaCross described the virus as more of a nuisance, although it had the capability of getting into the police department network and corrupting other files. The chief said his computer was quarantined most of Monday and part of Tuesday. It’s back to normal now. LaCross said the virus never got to the level of confidential …

Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. wants to get conversation started on hiring two new police officers -- one in the schools -- and a director of technology.
The town manager wants to get the conversation started on adding several new positions in Barrington. Peter DeAngelis Jr. mentions the positions of Police Resource Officer, Police Accreditation Officer and Director of Technology in the message that accompanies his proposed municipal budget for next year. He describes them as “new positions considered but not included.” That doesn’t mean DeAngelis has rejected the positions. Just the opposite, in fact. “It’s a starting point,” he said. “I introduced them as alternatives that are worthy of additional discussion” as the town tries to expand and improve services. DeAngelis said the three posts are being considered for the first time because “this is the way business is done today.” Obviously…

Barrington police are investigating the break-in of a home overnight Sunday, March 10, that was ransacked and burglarized; three other break-ins earlier last week reported.
Barrington police are investigating the break-in of a Chapman Lane home that was ransacked and burglarized sometime overnight on Sunday, March 10. The break-in was reported to police at around noon on Sunday shortly after the homeowner, an 81-year-old woman, returned home after leaving the house on Saturday. Approximately 28 items were reported missing, according to Barrington police, including jewelry, appliances, and a flat-screen television. Total value of the missing items was unknown. Some of the jewelry was found outside after apparently spilling out of a jewelry box. The woman returned home to find a broken window in the basement. She asked a neighbor to enter the home with her, according to the police report. They found that …

People tied up Barrington's emergency phone line with questions about when the power was coming back on during storm, and they parked cars on Washington Road so kids could sled forcing plow to wait.
Listen up, Barrington. You did not make Barrington’s police chief a happy camper during and in the aftermath of the Blizzard of ’13 last weekend. Scores of calls made to 911 over the weekend were not emergencies, said Police Chief John LaCross. They were calls from people asking when the power was coming back on. “We know people were anxious," he said. "But we never know. National Grid does not tell us. They are always non-committal.” Those calls, thus, tie up the emergency line. Compounding the issue was the fact that the non-emergency phone line was knocked out by the power outage, he said. So people were using the emergency number. Please don’t call the police and tie up the emergency line with a question the dispatchers simply can’t …

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross says patrol officers will be checking sidewalks today; town ordinance mandates that they had to be cleared by yesterday evening.
Have you cleared your sidewalk yet? Barrington police officers will begin checking sidewalks today to make sure they are cleared of snow, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. A town ordinance mandates that sidewalks be cleared by 6 pm on the day after a storm ends. The Blizzard of 2013 ended Saturday afternoon. That means the deadline was 6 pm Sunday. “Officers are going to be driving around and noticing sidewalks that are not cleared,” said LaCross. “They will be knocking on doors, especially in the commercial area of town. You could get a $50 fine.” LaCross estimated that 40 percent of sidewalks were cleared of snow on Sunday. So there were a lot of sidewalks left to be cleared. Sidewalks on streets used by children who walk to …

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross says he is including at least one police resource officer in his proposed budget for next year.
The Barrington Police Department’s proposed budget for next fiscal year will include a request for at least one full-time police resource officer in the schools, according to Police Chief John LaCross. “I’m hoping it is approved,” said LaCross in a story on eastbayri.com. “I’m hoping consideration is given to it … at least one position.” LaCross has attempted to get federal grants to pay for a resource officer in past years without success. This year the police chief said he will look for financial support from Barrington Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. and the Committee on Appropriations, according to eastbayri.com. Each resource officer would cost about $80,000 in salary and benefits, LaCross estimated. The resource officers would help …
