Help Spring-Clean Park Honoring Vets

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is looking for volunteers to help clean up Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning, May 25.

Memorial Day weekend -- the unofficial start of summer -- is here, but the Barrington park honoring veterans will still get a spring cleaning on Saturday. Volunteers are needed to help the Barrington Land Conservation Trust clean up the park from 10 am to noon.  “It’s a great project for families or groups,” said Beth Rondeau of the Land Trust. Black trash bags will be provided or feel free to bring your own. “We'll try to separate recyclables from true trash, such as fishing line tangled along the shoreline,” she said. “If there is time, we’ll do some basic trail maintenance – tossing of sticks and trimming back overgrowth.” Park in the Veterans Memorial Park parking lot at the end of the park access road that passes behind the YMCA or in…

Town Trails Team Gathers Tonight

A grant application for Veterans Memorial Park is on the table; learn about a presentation on Neutaconkanut Hill.

  The ‘Town Trails Team’ meets today in the Barrington library to look at a grant application for Veterans Memorial Park. The meeting starts at 7 pm. This meeting first will look at plans for Veterans Memorial Park. It will be an opportunity for you to comment on the drafts-in-progress. "We will outline projects for the spring; come be a part of this project planning," said Beth Rondeau, president of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. Next week, past Land Trust president Helen Tjader will be presenting the history and indigenous rock sites of Neutaconkanut Hill, said Rondeau. Take a Walk Under a Full Moon

The land trust from East Providence is teaming up with the Ten Mile River Watershed Council to walk under a full moon on Wednesday night; the Barrington land trust is invited to participate.

Take a walk under a full moon on Wednesday night, March 27. Members of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust have been invited by the Ten Mile River Watershed Council and the East Providence Land Conservation Trust to a free full-moon walk starting at 6:45 pm. Everyone will be meeting at the Turner Loop Trail parking area on Route 114A in East Providence across from Hunt's Mills, said Beth Rondeau of the Barrington land trust. "From there they will walk a short trail along the Ten Mile River and Turner Reservoir into Bridgham Farm, a property of the land trust," Rondeau said. "One feature of the walk will be a stop at the Newman Oak, a tree said to be hundreds of years old," she said. The walk is about 1 mile of "easy walking," she said. …

Try Again -- Walkabout at Veterans Park

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is hosting a walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning.

Presuming the weather cooperates this week, there will be a walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Feb. 16. The walkabout starts at 10 am near the American Legion Hall on Legion Way. It was postponed from last Saturday by the Blizzard of 2013. “Examine trails and wetlands in preparation for the next phase of park projects to improve trail conditions, close trails where needed, and complete the new trail system,” said Helen Tjader of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. “We will be walking off trail or in wet and snowy conditions as part of our review,” Tjader said. “Check out the elm tree. Take an Owl Prowl With Land Trust

Listen for the screeches and look for great horned owls in Veterans Memorial Park in Barrington today, Dec. 28.

Take a winter nighttime owl prowl in Barrington tonight, Dec. 28. You’ll be listening for the screeches and looking for great horned owls. You’ll even get to practice owl calls. The walk is sponsored by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. It starts just after dark at 4:30 pm in Veterans Memorial Park. The looping trail to be used is described as appropriate for anyone who is not afraid of the dark.  But bring a flashlight and a non-perishable canned food item as a donation to TAP-IN. With the cold weather, TAP-IN is especially in need of protein items such as peanut butter or canned tuna.  Park in the Bayside YMCA lot on West Street. Meet at the park gate. The rain date is next Friday, Jan. 4.

Eat Cookies on Sowams Woods Walk

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is celebrating the 6th anniversary of the preservation of Sowams Woods with a 'cookie exchange and winter walk'.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust celebrates the 6th anniversary of the preservation of Sowams Woods on Saturday, Dec. 22, with a winter walk and cookie exchange. "Can you believe it is the 6th anniversary of Sowams Woods' protection?," said Beth Rondeau, president of the land trust.  "Bring a dozen wrapped cookies or other holiday treats to exchange at the start," she said. "Then enjoy our first hike of winter featuring owl and sky watching tips and traditions. You will also learn about ongoing projects to remove invasive plants, she said. Take a Walk to Opening of Park

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust will open the town's newest park -- Lombardi Park -- on Saturday afternoon with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony.

Take a walk on the East Bay Bike Path Saturday afternoon. Stop by the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for Barrington's newest park. Lombardi Park will be opened officially by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust at 2 pm. It sits just north of South Lake Drive at Little Echo pond. Land for the park was given to the Land Trust by Salvatore and Josephine Lombardi. The CVS Caremark Charitable Fund provided financial support. “Walk west along the path until you reach the park entrance,” said Beth Rondeau, co-president of the Land Trust. You can't miss the park. The Barrington Land Conservation Trust has created a park just off the East Bay Bike Path; a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony is next Saturday, Nov. 10.

You are invited to the opening and dedication of Lombardi Park in Barrington next Saturday, Nov. 10. It starts at 2 pm. The Barrington Land Conservation Trust has created a park on land given to it by Salvatore and Josephine Lombardi. The CVS Caremark Charitable Fund provided financial support.
