The 'Late Winter Festival' merged performers and performing arts groups for an afternoon of entertainment Sunday in the Barrington library auditorium.
The "Late Winter Festival" brought a rather unique celebration of Barrington's performing arts community to the library auditorium Sunday afternoon. Professional singers Pat McGee and Pat McAloon and the Local Brew Coffeehouse quintet, Bay Spring Folk, performed in two shows along with children performers from both of the town's youth performing arts groups, the Barrington Community Theater and Arts Alive! A 1:30 pm show packed the 105-seat auditorium; a 3:30 pm show filled most of the seats. The shows were free.

Perhaps for the first time ever, Barrington's performing arts organizations are joining together to present the 'Late Winter Festival' on March 3 in the library auditorium.
Get ready for what is expected to be one of the best celebrations of the arts ever in Barrington. And it is all for free. It's being billed as the "Late Winter Festival." And it is expected to draw so many people that not one but two shows are planned on Sunday afternoon, March 3. The show is a merger of some of Barrington's leading arts groups and performers -- perhaps for the first time ever, said Larson Gunness, who is coordinating the festival along with the Local Brew Coffeehouse events team. The coffeehouse team is best known for producing shows at the Bay Spring Community Center in West Barrington. But that venue is far too small to host this type of festival right now, said Gunness. The Barrington Community Theater finishes its fall season with a festival of one-act plays this weekend. The plays will be performed at 7 pm on Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday Nov. 17 in the Barrington library auditorium. The Barrington Enrichment Summer Theater (BEST) camp draws the curtain on its second summer session this week with a festival of one-act plays on Friday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 4, nights. Actors from ages 8 to 18 have been working together on five shows, including a musical review, said Maurice “Reid” Eighme, Barrinton Community Theater director. The Barrington Enrichment Summer Theater (BEST) camp finishes up its first summer session with a festival of one-act plays on Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14. Actors from ages 8 to 18 have been preparing six short comedies, five directed by students, according to BEST director Maurice "Reid" Eighme. Performances will be held in the Barrington Public Library auditorium at 7 pm each day. BEST is a Barrington theater program held Monday through Friday at Barrington High School from 8 am to 3 pm. Barrington Community Theater offers two three-week sessions each summer at the high school; the first session started today.
Barrington’s summer theater camp opens today in the high school. There are two separate three-week sessions if you missed signing up for the first one. Each session will include at least 6 plays with 70 roles for kids ages 8-18. The opening date of the next session is July 16. Camps run from 8 am to 3 pm. “On average, full-day participants act in three plays per three-week session,” said Reid Eighme, community theater director. “Each show will rehearse for one hour a day, with a final performance at the end of the session.” Enjoy singing and dancing?
