Tastes of Town 'Bloom' in Barrington

The first 'Blooms, Bubbles and Bistro' food-tasting event took place Thursday evening at Grapes & Grains in Barrington; it was a highlight of the first Barrington Blooms event running this week.

A Barrington Business Association food-tasting fundraiser, “Blooms, Bubbles and Bistro,” drew scores of people to Grapes & Grains on Bosworth Street Thursday evening. It was a highlight of the first "Barrington Blooms" week, which continues with a storefront decorating contest. Many of Barrington's restaurants and eateries served up some of their best tastes of the town from 6 to 8 pm. Among the foods: goat cheese crostini by Billy's restaurant; arancini (panko fried wild musroom risotto) by Tyler Point Grille; pizzas by Trendy's Pizza and Mangia Neapolitan Pizza; calzones by Casual Catering; mini-cupcakes by the Sweet Shoppe; assorted pastries by Vienna Bakery; chopped salad with shrimp by Pizzico Ristorate; potato and spinach puffs by …

Barrington Merchants to 'Bloom'

The Barrington Business Association is sponsoring a week-long 'Barrington Blooms' storefront decorating contest and food-tasting fundraiser.

Barrington will bloom in a few weeks – thanks to Mother Nature and the merchants association.  The first-ever “Barrington Blooms” will run from April 20-27.  It’s a storefront decorating contest and a food-tasting fundraiser, “Blooms Bubbles and Bistro,” that will highlight the week-long event on the evening of April 25. Merchants are being asked to decorate their storefronts. Customers and Barrington residents will be asked to vote online for the best storefront. Meet 'Passport to Savings' Winner

Kathy Kloc of Barrington receives $1,000 in gifts and gift certifications in the annual holiday promotion, 'Passport of Savings'.

And the winner is ... Kathy Kloc of Barrington. Kloc is the winner of the annual Barrington Business Association's "Passport to Savings" grand prize. She received $1,000 worth of gifts and gift certificates from Barrington businesses that participated in the holiday "Passport to Savings" promotion last year. Lois Coppolino, owner of Daisy Dig'ins Florist and Gifts and co-director of the business association, presents the grand prize to Kloc.

Barrington to 'Bloom' This Spring

Thinking spring, the Barrington Business Association to sponsor 'Barrington Blooms' on April 27 with a fundraiser the night before the event.

Barrington will bloom on April 27. Sure, the Barrington Business Association knows it’s about as cold as it can get outside. But it’s already thinking spring. The association met Tuesday night at the Tyler Point Grille and set April 27 as the date for the first “Barrington Blooms” event. “It will include a spring store-decorating contest,” said Holly Smith, co-director of the BBA and owner of Hollies on the Avenue. “It’s a jump-start to spring.” Smith said merchants will be asked to “beautify their storefronts to help the town look festive” and get involved in a contest with customers checking out the storefronts and voting for their favorite spring display. Runners Jingled as They Jogged

The first Jingle Bell Run sponsored by the Barrington Business Association draws several dozen runners and walkers on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9.

They came, they ran, they jingled. And they raised $100 for TAP-IN in Barrington that will be put to good use for the less fortunate in the East Bay. A couple of dozen runners and a few walkers came out on Sunday, Dec. 9, for the first Jingle Bell Run sponsored by the Barrington Business Association. They ran a short course from the Bayside YMCA through the Maple Avenue neighborhood and back to the 'Y' starting at noon. When most runners finished about 7-10 minutes later on the .7-mile course, the winners were the "Candy Cane Family" for most festive costume. 1st 'Jingle Bell Run' Coming Up

The first Jingle Bell Run in Barrington takes place Sunday, Dec. 9; it's described as a "family fun event" by the sponsoring business association.

Jingle as you run on Sunday, Dec. 9. It's the first Jingle Bell Run sponsored by the Barrington Business Association. You can win a prize for "most festive family" and "best-dressed pooch." The .7-mile run is billed as a "family fun event" by the merchants group. You can start to jingle at 12 noon. Go to the Bayside YMCA parking lot. The course goes to Maple Avenue and back to the YMCA. The cost is $5 per family with all proceeds going to TAP-IN. Jingle While You Run in Barrington

The first 'Jingle Bell Run' is slated for Sunday, Dec. 9; the 'fun run' will follow a short course starting and ending at the Bayside YMCA.

Expect quite a few bells to be jingling in Barrington on Sunday, Dec. 9. The first “Jingle Bell Run” will be held starting at noon. It is sponsored by the Barrington Business Association and the Bayside YMCA. “It’s a fun run,” said Lois Coppolino, co-director of the business association. “All families will get bells to jingle.” You can run with your pets if you like. Holiday costumes for everyone are optional. The run also will raise some funds for TAP-IN to help the nonprofit refill its shelves and get ready for the holidays, she said. Hundreds took advantage of a sun-splashed Saturday in October to visit three festivals within minutes of each other in Barrington.

Pumpkins. Carved and painted pumpkins. Inflatables. More inflatables. Food. Food trucks. Games. Pony rides. A horse-pulled wagon ride. A train ride. Tattoos. Painted faces. A black-cat adoption. Candidates campaigning. Vendors selling. A raffle. A silent auction. Music. More music. Yes, there was plenty to do and see in Barrington on Saturday, Oct. 13. 'Stroll' Around Barrington Saturday

The Barrington Business Association is hosting a 'Harvest Stroll' in town center with food trucks, pumpkin carving, and family-friendly activities at two dozen merchants.

The business center of Barrington will buzz on Saturday, Oct. 13, like it hasn’t in many years. The Barrington Business Association is throwing a fall party – otherwise known as the “Harvest Stroll” from 12 to 4 pm. It coincides with the annual pumpkin-carving and pumpkin-decorating event at Kids Kove playground behind Town Hall. Almost two dozen local businesses are teaming up with eight food trucks and the Barrington Recreation Department to fill up town center with food, entertainment and family-friendly activities and events, including a horse-drawn hayride that will circulate around town from 1-3 pm. Merchants Offering 'Harvest Stroll'

The Barrington Business Association is firming up plans for a 'Harvest Stroll' in and around town center on Oct. 13.

Take a stroll in Barrington on Oct. 13 – the first “Harvest Stroll.” The Barrington Business Association is hosting a mid-day festival in and around town center. From noon to 4 pm, you will get to sample what many merchants have to offer with plenty of activities at each shop and store, said Holly Smith of Hollies on the Avenue, the co-president of the BBA. The merchants also are partnering with the Barrington Recreation Department, which plans to hold it’s annual pumpkin-carving festival on the same day. Plans for the festival were firmed up at the association’s meeting at Chiazza Trattoria & Bar on Tuesday evening, Sept. 11.
