AAA: Holiday Travel to Creep Up

AAA releases its Thanksgiving 2012 travel forecast.

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and that means people are thinking about the three Ts: turkey, trimmings and travel. Not only will it be a busy time in the kitchen, it will also be busy on the roads and at the airports. But, according to the AAA Thanksgiving 2012 Travel Forecast, this year will be busier than last, but not by much.  AAA estimates that 43.6 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home between Wednesday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 25 -- up 0.7 percent from 43.3 million people during the holiday last year. Some 90 percent of this year's travelers will be hitting the roads, 39.1 million of them traveling by automobile. And gas prices are expected to continue on a downward trend into the holiday. Do Traffic Safety Pitch, Win Prizes

AAA Southern New England's annual traffic safety message competition is open to children from kindergarten through high school.

Student artists and filmmakers in Barrington, pay attention. AAA Southern New England’s annual “Traffic Safety Message Contest” is underway. It gives children and teens (grades K-12) an opportunity to make an impact in creating a traffic safety message for their peers. And students can win a grand prize of $1,000 and other cash prizes for first, second and third places and honorable mention. "There are no better teachers for children and teens than their peers,” says Diana Dias, AAA traffic safety education specialist. “I’m very excited that this year’s contest will allow for a broader use of technology in creating and conveying a traffic safety video or poster that could potentially save someone’s life.”  Through March 30, students in …
