'An Education' plays in Barrington library as part of the independent film series; YMCA presents class: 'A Matter of Balance'.
The Barrington library flim series, Indy Flicks You Never Saw But Wished You Did (Or Just Want to See Again!), shows “An Education,” an award-winning film that is a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age. Free and open to all, it airs at 7 pm in the theater-like auditorium. Thursday night Zumba classes at 426 Fitness, 426 Metacom Ave, Warren, will benefit the Warren Animal Shelter, which cares for and houses Barrington strays and pets. Two housing developers have asked for continuances so the Barrington Planning Board cancels its meeting.
The Barrington Planning Board has canceled its meeting scheduled for tonight because of two continuances; the Bluemead subdivision proposal will be back before the board again at the December meeting. Hurricane Sandy's impact closes Barrington schools again today.
The Barrington Public Schools are closed again today; so is St. Luke’s School in Barrington. Your generosity is appreciated, but please refrain from donating used books to the Friends of the Barrington Library for its annual November book sale this weekend. The library is overflowing and has no more space to store them all. Books may be donated again after the sale. The Barrington/Warren Rotary Club is scheduled to meet at the Wharf Tavern at 6:30 pm with the district governor's visit scheduled for 5 pm, weather and power permitting. Dead Poets Society, starring Robin Williams, opens a four-part film series titled “Teachers in Movies” at 7 pm in the Barrington Public Library auditorium. The Barrington School Committee holds a workshop on changing the school start times in the high school library at 7 pm; results of the survey filled out by parents, teachers and students will be shared. There is plenty to do this Earth Day weekend in and around Barrington, including a Land Trust cleanup and celebration; Wheeler School 'clothing and more' sale; talk on 100-year-old Fenway Park, FAB basketball tourney.
The 64th annual “clothing and more” sale at Wheeler School in Providence continues today and Saturday starting at 10 am each day. Go to the gymnasium at 407 Brook St. on the East Side and find clothing for the whole family and many other “treasures” at greatly produced prices. The Barrington Land Conservation Trust cleans up the eastern shore of Allin’s Cove and the Third Street access to the Narragansett Bay beach on Saturday from 10 am to noon.
