The school's mission focuses on building a foundation of skills and a desire to learn in each pupil. It serves to offer a responsive and challenging environment through a caring and nurturing school-family partnership. Educational programs include those for single grade, multi-grade, half-day kindergarten and half-day preschool. With teacher input, parents can choose which educational programming a child may enter. The principal is Christopher Kennedy.

Each school is recognized for quality instruction and teachers who receive cutting-edge professional development. Hampden Meadows serves pupils in grades 4 to 5. Neighborhood schools Nayatt, Primrose Hill and Sowams serve pupils in grades K to 3. The middle school serves students from grades 6 to 8. The high school serves students in grades 9 to 12.
The school department has two assistant superintendents, Betty A. Calise, responsible for curriculum and instruction, and Ronald D. Tarro, responsible for administration and finance. A five-member School Committee is elected for four-year terms. It meets twice each month during the school year usually on the first and third Thursdays.
