Common sense??? I'll make it easy to understand. LEAVE THE DOG HOME!!!!!!! Enough said!!!
morlamweb July 12, 2014 at 03:04 pm
I agree, Stephanie! "Common" sense should be to leave your dog at home. What Cai andRead More Michael don't seem to get is that temperatures in a parked car get very hot very quickly, particularly in the hot summer sun. Even four minutes in the shade with the windows open can make it uncomfortably hot in the car. Believe me, if I see a dog trapped in a hot car, I WILL report it. Responsible dog owners do NOT leave their "beloved" dogs in the car!
Samantha Marley August July 14, 2014 at 01:01 pm
My car doesn't have AC. If I can drive around for hours without getting too hot, or sit in theRead More direct sunlight with the windows open and not overheat, I think a dog can survive three minutes with ice water and windows down.

Honestly, in 1989 I was caught in Portsmouth throwing a soda can out of my car, coming around theRead More bend at the overlook near Kaiser Aluminum. I had to go to court and paid a $50.00 fine and it is still on my record. On the very rare occasion I have some interaction with law enforcement it is VERY embarrassing, now that I am older and know better. EVERY police officer WILL enforce that law IF the offence is observed. BELIEVE IT......

It's now illegal in Rhode Island to leave a dog in a sweltering vehicle. File photo.
MillicentBroderick July 8, 2014 at 09:47 pm
There are a fair number of people who are genuinely unaware of the danger, there are people who doRead More not like to be told how to run their lives and that extends to the creature in the car. I have on 4 occasions nicely and politely informed a person that it would be harmful to their dog to leave it in the car, as the dog had been. I have never had anyone say thank you I did not realize. I have been threatened with violence and basically run off. So what does that say. That is why it needs to be a law..so there is no "discussion". awful.
Samantha Marley August July 14, 2014 at 12:35 pm
If it's illegal to leave pets outside, we should be able to take them into the stores with us. MyRead More dog is an adorable long-haired Chihuahua. Everyone on earth wants to pet him and hug him, and for that reason I can't leave him outside a car -- he's very nervous and I wouldn't put it past him to nip or bite someone who tries to pet him. He's safer in the car. I also leave all the windows open, leave him loosely tied to the seat to leave him enough room to move around, and leave water with ice in it for him. This is all for a two second run into the store, literally never more than three minutes. I just think it all comes down to common sense. Don't leave anything in the car with all the windows up. Roll them down or put on the AC. However, I don't think any random person should be able to smash in my windows that are already mostly rolled down to get to a dog who is perfectly fine hah. This just seems sorta ridiculous. Obviously, don't hurt animals. I am actually huge on animal rights. This just seems excessive.
Kellie Jackson July 21, 2014 at 02:38 pm
Samantha, no. Just no. You shouldn't be allowed to bring your pets into stores. If you have to goRead More shopping, leave your pets at HOME. They don't belong in stores, making messes that most customers leave for the associates to clean up. If it's a service animal, that's fine. No other exceptions...

Total BS. I live in Woosocket. We are right next to the border of Massachusetts. We have gunshotsRead More every day. Accidents 5/8 times a day. I walk over the border and everything is much cheaper. Let alone I have never been ripped of in MA. Of course Ri has the 2nd in "Fatal Occupational Injuries per Total Employees" as their is no work... As for sec offenders. We have 6(six) on our block alone and they allow children to live on this block knowing 2 of them wewre convicted pedophiles. These statistics are falsified. I would like to know the source of data for this. To me it appears that someone paid for these rankings to help drive more people to RI. Shame

I had my home insurance policy with Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Vermont, policy purchasedRead More from AAA. Last September the area of Sowams Road was hit by a wind driven hail storm that caused damage to most roofs in the area. Make sure you check your roof, if your roof is damaged you can file a claim to replace the roofing shingles unless if you have Union Mutual fire Insurance company of Vermont which would deny any claims for hail damage to roofing shingles. Lesson learned......I switched to AMICA.... very professional and best service....... Stay away from Micky Mouse insurance companies

Let me add one more thing, if it was up to people like RS and Leo people in this country wouldn'tRead More even have the right to complain; communist's indeed. The sad thing is one day your children's children will be at the mercy of people like you... Remember what Khrushchev said in 1960 as he stood before the United Nations banging his shoe on the podium. Yes, he was talking about Leo and RS and their government labor union loyalists...

Seth. You seem to be the only voice of reason in this chat. It is very obvious that Barrington MomRead More has an ax to grind, and unfortunately, her only forum to express this is via the internet. Very sad and unfortunate that we are in a community and society of small minded people who act as vultures when alleged , and I repeat, ALLEGED charges are brought to light.. God forbid, Barrington Mom, that some unfortunate events with you are your family are made public. I hope the public has more compassion for you than you have on others. Very sad....,As for Mrs. Pereira, I have the utmost respect for this educator. Her dedication to the children and their learning is stellar, and Barrington is lucky to have her. I have witnessed this first hand and have total confidence that she will be found innocent of these allegations. If I am correct we still live in a society where we are innocent until proven guilty.i hope people have more compassion for you, Barrington Mom, than you have had for Mrs. Pereira. VERY SMALL MINDED AND DISRESPECTFUL...
Ted G June 12, 2014 at 02:02 pm
Mr. Simmons is speaking as a colleague/mentor of Ms. Perreira. It should come as no surprise toRead More anyone that one of her union brethren (not working at Sowams) would attack “Barrington Mom” and anyone else who dares to express outrage that this woman still works in the teaching profession. The fact that Ms. Perreira is incompetent only seems relevant to the students, their parents, and the poor 3rd grade teachers who have to “inherit” her second grade students. For far too long, it appears to have fallen on deaf ears with the Sowams School principal, school superintendent(s), and the Barrington School Committee(s). All eyes are on the school administration. Will this latest incident with this teacher be swept under the rug…again?
Glen Simmons June 12, 2014 at 07:28 pm
Ted G. (or whoever you are).Yes,, I Mr. Simmons am speaking not only of a colleague, but a friendRead More and, YES, a human being who has loved ones, who, God forbid, do NOT read the poison set forth by you and other members of this community including Sam and "Barrington Mom". First off, I have to laugh at the fact that I am the only one on here using my full name and taking ownership of my opinions. VERY TYPICAL of this community to bash people under a veil of annonimity such as "TED G","SAM" and "BARRINTON MOM". If you are going to spout out venom and poison, have the guts to put your first and last name. Come on people!!! Where do I begin, TED G or whoever you are... First and foremost, I question why you refer to Mrs. Pereira as my "UNION BRETHREN". Do I detect a bit of animosity against anyone who, god fobid, is a member of the teacher's union? You also used the word "attack". Pretty strong, indeed. I reviewed my previous comment and the word ATTACK seems a bit strong, and downright dramatic, TED G (or whoever you are). Furthermore, you refer to Mrs. Pereira as "incompetent". What facts do you have to back this up? Facts I have to speak to the contrary include: 1. Mrs. Pereira has been consistently been rated as an EFFECTIVE or HIGHLY EFFECTIVE teacher in each and every observation she has had. 2. Mrs. Pereira has worked tirelessly on numerous committees , often time, giving up her own time an energy for the well-being of her students 3. Mrs. Pereira would consistently arrive at Sowams School at 7 a.m. , giving countless FREE hours to the public schools to ensure her lesson plans were solid and her students where exposed to BEST PRACTICES each and every day. 4. Mrs. Pereira worked tirelessly so that her children were able to participate in before and after school event that fostered community service learning. 5. Students and parents that I had in the upper elementary grades that had Mrs. Pereira in previous years could not say enough good things about this individual. I witnessed countless times where students would come running up to her years later to greet her. Any third grade teacher would be so lucky to have a student who was exposed to the fine teaching of Mrs. Periera. Again , I discount you OPINIONS as heresay, regarding the 3rd grade teachers. STICK TO THE FACTS, instead of lowering yourself to the murky waters below. Ted G (or whoever you are), I totally discount any of your claims, as YOU FAIL TO reveal your basis for these accusations, and fail to disclose your identity. It is too often a common practice in this community to whisper gossip on the soccer field, or make mean, vindictive comments that attempt to tear down one's repuation. Last I hear, ONE IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN guillty. If you are goin to make these accusations have the cahunas to sign your name. OWN IT!! I hope all of you do not have any personal misfortunes in your life were the public act like vultures and try to tear you down. These comments are NOT reflective of the MAJORITY OF GOOD PEOPLE I have had the fortune of knowing in this district over the last 21 years. My God be a be a bit more merciful to you TED G, SAM, and BARRINGTON MOM (or whoever you are)!!

A couple of questions... 1. Was anyone from PETA in the staging area just before this act was toRead More be performed? 2. Did Ringling Bros. try to set this up, as they have hundreds of times before without incident, without using union, RI licensed riggers for the project?
