St. John's Episcopal is not only "the big church on the hill," according to Parish Administrator Michelle DuPont. "We're also very welcoming" with a mission committed to the care, nourishment and spiritual growth of all. The church is one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of Rhode Island. Among its outreach efforts is Beyond Our Walls,  a non-profit that offers volunteers a chance to perform a Great Day of Service statewide each year on the Monday of Columbus Day weekend. The church also sets up Pumpkin Junction for a month on the front lawn in late September each year. It operates a clothing consignment shop, Encore. Joining the 900-member congregation last fall was the Rev. Robert K. Marshall, the 14th Rector since the church opened its doors in 1859.
