Your Guide to Hundred Acre Cove Paddle

Spend Labor Day morning, Sept. 2, paddling across Hundred Acre Cove in Barrington.

The guided kayak and canoe paddle is part of the Rhode Island Land Trust Days – a series of 60 guided walks and events through the scenic views, green spaces and working farms that are Rhode Island’s 47 land trusts.

The paddle in the cove is sponsored by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust, East Bay Rowing, and the Barrington Recreation Department. It leaves from the dock at the Walker Farm conservation area off of County Road near the merge with Wampanoag Trail.

The event is described as a “pristine paddle in the third-largest salt marsh estuary in Rhode Island.” The cove also is home to Rhode Island’s only known nesting area for northern diamondback terrapins, and its supports more than 50 species of birds.

A naturalist will lead the paddle and educate everyone about the cove’s wildlife.
