Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Here are some things to do in and around Barrington this weekend, Sept. 13-15.

The Rare Disease United Foundation holds its second annual "Care for Rare" silent auction at Linden Place Mansion in downtown Bristol on Friday. The Adam Ezra Group, 2013 New England Music Award Winner, will be performing. There will be great food as well. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased in advance by clicking here.

St. James Lutheran Church, on the corner of Middle Highway and County Road (Rt. 103), hosts its 20th annual “Giant Yard Sale” on Saturday. The yard sale runs from 8 am to 2 pm in the parking lot behind the church. You can rent a space for $25. Call (401) 253-9413.

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Environmental Education Center in Bristol offers free admission on Saturday, courtesy of a grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation. Families can explore environmental exhibits representing Rhode Island’s diverse habitats, from upland meadow and cornfields to wetlands, salt marshes and the Narragansett Bay shoreline. 

The environmental education center is siituated on the 28-acre McIntosh Wildlife Refuge at 1401 Hope St. Visitors can enjoy beautiful nature trails and a variety of education programs from 9 am to 5 pm. The following programs are slated for Saturday:
  • Nature Craft: Owl Mask: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Bird of prey nature stories: 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Owl interview: 11:30 p.m.
  • Nature Walk: 1:00 p.m. (weather permitting)

The Barrington Farmers Market continues on Saturday from 9 am to noon at Barrington Congregational Church on County Road. There are always new vendors on hand with seasonal produce, breads, pastries, meats and other home-grown goods. Among the usual vendors are New Urban Farmers in Pawtucket, Aquidneck Honey in Middletown, Providence Coffee Roasters in Providence, Nettie's Kettle Corn in North Providence, Oakdale Farm in Rehoboth, and Seven Stars Bakery in Providence and East Providence.

The third annual Fiddle ‘n Folk Fest returns to Haines Memorial State Park on the Barrington-Riverside line on Sunday with musical performers from throughout southern New England. The musical feast runs from noon to 6 pm. There will be food trucks, craft vendors and activities for children as well. Here is the lineup of this year’s musicians:
