Start planning your pre-Christmas weekend with some help from Patch.

Here are some things to know about this weekend, Dec. 20-22, in and around Barrington:

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will visit Shaw's Supermarket in the Barrington Shopping Plaza on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Kids still have time to tell Santa what they want for Christmas and to have their photo taken with Santa and his wife for $10. All of the proceeds from the photos will benefit a local charity.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust invites you to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the protection of Sowams Woods on Saturday morning with a walk that recognizes the winter solstice. The celebration starts at 11 am at the entrance to the hiking trail off South Lake Drive. You can learn about solstice traditions on the first day of winter, also the shortest day of the year for sunlight, and see habitat improvements while sipping apple cider and munching on cookies. The rain date is Sunday at 2 pm.
