Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Start planning your weekend with some help from Patch.

The upcoming weekend is all about visiting with family and friends or traveling out of town to see relatives for the hoidays, but there are still things in and around Barrington if you are looking for something to add to your schedule:

The sixth annual Barrington Boosters Holiday Basketball Tournament starts this afternoon and continues Saturday afternoon, Dec. 28, at the high school gymnasium. Ten teams, including the undefeated boys’ and girls’ teams at Barrington, and the girls’ team from neighboring East Providence, make up the field with each team guaranteed to play two games – one each day. Admission is $5 a day for the complete slate of games.

Juanita Sanchez (4-1) and East Providence (0-3) open the tourney today at 1 pm. Mount St. Charles (0-2) and Shea (0-1) play at 2:30 pm. Rogers (1-1) plays Portsmouth (0-3) at 4 pm. North Kingstown’s boys (4-0) tangle with Barrington’s boys (3-0) at 5:30 pm.  The Prout School (0-3) and Barrington’s girls (1-1) teams close out the first day of competition at 7 pm.

Juanita Sanchez also opens the tourney on Saturday at 12 pm against Rogers. Portsmouth plays Prout at 1:30 pm. Shea plays North Kingstown at 3 pm. The girls from East Providence and Barrington play at 4:30 pm. The Barrington and Mount St. Charles boys play at 6 pm to end the tourney on Saturday.

The Barrington Recreation Department has scheduled discounted bowling this weekend at Dudek Bowling Lanes, 409 Child St., Warren. You can bowl today from 12 to 5 pm and Saturday from 9 to 5 for the discounted rate of $3.25 per game. Click here for more information

The Recreation Department also continues its School’s Out program for kids ages 6-12 at the Barrington Middle School today with a variety of activities on half-day sessions. Click here for more information on Patch or go to the Barrington website.

The Audubon Society’s Environmental Education Center in Bristol has scheduled a variety of things to do during school vacation week. Here is the weekend schedule:

Friday, Dec. 27, 11 am:  

Owl See, Owl Do: Could you be an owl detective? Come and learn all about the amazing world of owls and discover which owls live in Rhode Island.  Please note there is a $2.00 fee per owl pellet.

Saturday, Dec. 28; 11 am: 

OH! DEER! Who is able to jump fences with a single bound, swim across the deepest lakes, walk 20 minutes after being born and posses the fastest growing living tissue on earth?

Sunday, Dec. 29

  • 12:30 – 2:30 pm: Nature Craft
  • 1:00 pm: Animal Interview
  • 2:00 pm: Nature Story
  • 2:30 pm: Antarctic Mission Nature Flick
  • Join the adventure as scientists sail to the bottom of the world to explore the great Antarctic.  

Disney On Ice continues its run at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence with more than 60 of Disney's captivating characters brought to life on skates in this commemorative celebration. Show times today and Saturday are 11 am, and 3 and 7 pm and Sunday, Dec. 29, at 12 and 4 pm. Click here for more information.
