Community Center Reopening, Pumpkin Party, Shed Pounds With Padre

Here some things to do in and around Barrington this weekend, Oct. 18-20. 

A grand re-opening of the Bay Spring Community Center, 170 Narragansett Ave., takes place on Saturday starting at 4 pm. The Barrington Recreation Department and Friends of the Bay Spring Community Center are teaming up for the event, which will feature the Barrington High School Jazz Ensemble leading up to a ribbon-cutting at 5 pm and a Local Brew celebration featuring food trucks, snacks, a photo booth, kids games, face painting and more.

The Audubon Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope St., Bristol, hosts its annual Perfect Pumpkin Party on Saturday starting at 10 am. Join Audubon for its annual day of pumpkin fun, including rolling pumpkin art, played pumpkin ring toss, or getting creative with pumpkin stamping. This event is free with admission.  No need to register.  Wear clothes that can get dirty.

The Barrington Christian Academy, 9 Old County Road, holds an open house on Sunday at 2 pm. The regional K-12 school draws students from all over Rhode Island . For more information, visit the school’s website or call the school office at 401-246-0113.

The annual Warren Walkabout runs from 12 to 5 pm all over town on Sunday. The Walkabout is the town’s annual autumn arts stroll and general celebration of the season. A “Taste of Warren,” in particular, will showcase samples from local restaurants and food producers. Musicians, artists, shops, restaurants, and galleries are open to visitors. A trolley will provide rides for anyone who prefers that mode of transportation. The historic Maxwell House, 59 Church St., will be open for tours, activities, demonstrations and more. You can meet a Revolutionary War soldier, explore the Colonial era house, and find out which herbs cure headaches or stomach aches.

Join the St. Luke's Church Missionaries and Father Scott Pontes of St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence, for a “Pound Away the Pounds With the Padre” fitness class for all ages. It runs on Sunday evening at 6 at St. Luke’s School. You’ll get one hour of exercise while also supporting a group of high school missionaries traveling to Jamaica to work with handicapped orphan children and on another mission project. The donation is $10.
