Monday Essentials: Youth Hoops Night; Get Organized; Play Badminton

Here are some things to know about this week in and around Barrington:

The Barrington High School boys’ basketball team hosts a “BHS Youth Basketball Night” today, Jan. 13, at 6 pm. Admission is free for each player wearing their youth basketball team jersey. There will be a mini-scrimmage at halftime and youth program recognition. The Eagles trade shots with Exeter-West Greenwich.

weekly “brown bag lunch” series for East Bay business women continues on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and runs for the next three months at the East Bay Chamber of Commerce, 16 Cutler St., Warren. The women’s winter series is hosted by W.E.B.O.N.D. (Women's Empowerment and Business Owners Networking Development) and sponsored by RE/MAX River’s Edge from 12 to 1 pm. There is a guest speaker each week. Admission is $5 a week or $45 for the complete series. Here is the remaining schedule of topics and speakers in January:

  • Jan. 14  "Peace and Power as a Woman Entrepreneur – Two Key Practices" led by Joanna Meriweather

The East Bay Business Networking International (BNI) Chapter will host a Business After Hours event on Thursday, Jan. 16, that benefits Crossroads Rhode Island. It runs from 6 to 8 pm at Raymour and Flanigan, 100 Highland Avenue, Seekonk. Attendees are encouraged to bring toiletry items that will be donated to Crossroads Rhode Island. The event is $5 per person, and is open to the public. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. Call 401-575-6140 with questions. 

Get organized this year with some free help from Kristin MacRae, professional organizer and owner of Organizing in RI, at the Barrington Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7 pm. She will offer some tips and organizing solutions to one of life’s biggest problems: taming your paper clutter. Do you like to play badminton? A co-ed badminton league starts on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 pm at Barrington Middle School. It is sponsored by the Barrington Recreation Department. Register on the Town of Barrington website on the recreation page or at the door. Bring your own racket if you have one; a limited number of rackets will be on hand. Call the recreation department at 247-1925 with questions.
