Monday Essentials: Sunny Week Ends With Parish Festival, Beach Party

Summer week to end with the annual Holy Angels Summer Festival and The Driftwoods singing on Barrington Beach.

Here are some things you should know about this week, Aug. 12-18, in Barrington:

  1. The week looks mostly sunny with temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s each day; Tuesday may have some scattered thunder showers.
  2. Town Hall, the library and the senior center will be closed today, Aug. 12, being celebrated as Victory Day in Rhode Island – the only state to still celebrate the victory over Japan in World War II; it’s business as usual everywhere else.
  3. The Summer Family Film Series: I Love the ‘90s continues in the Barrington library auditorium tomorrow, Aug. 13,, at 7 pm with “Free Willy,” the story of Jesse, a troubled 12-year old, who befriends Willy, an orca whale recently captured by a seaquarium whose owner plots to kill Willy for the insurance money.
  4. Holy Angels Church’s annual Summer Festival and Feast of the Assumption takes place next weekend, Aug. 16-18, under a big tent on the parish grounds; the festival includes great foods, games, raffles, a baked goods table, musical entertainment, children’s games, a white elephant sale, and a Feast Mass on Sunday morning.
  5. Barrington's summer concert series ends on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 6 pm with The Driftwoods, Rhode Island's Beach Boys tribute band singing at a party on Barrington Beach; bring your blankets, chairs and food to snack on for the annual event.
