Monday Essentials: Book Club Meets, Community Theatre Curtain Rises

Here are some things to know about this week in and around Barrington:

The First Monday of the Month Book Club meets in the Barrington Senior Center from 10 to 11:30 am today, Jan. 6. Over a cup of coffee, readers come together once a month to share reading discoveries with one another in a warm and friendly atmosphere. No registration required.  

The curtain rises today, Jan. 6, on the winter session of the Barrington Community Theatre. Auditions will be held starting at 6 pm in the Barrington Middle School. In its 13th year as a partner of the Barrington Recreation Department, the community theater offers opportunities for students to perform and direct theater. Find sign-up sheets online, in the recreation department office, or in the Town Manager’s office. Give blood and get a pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee on Tuesday, Jan. 7,  at St. Andrew’s School, 63 Federal Road.  Every donation can save three lives! The blood drive starts at noon. 

The Flatbread Company, 161 Cushing St., Providence will donate a portion of all flatbread pizza sales on Tuesday, Jan. 7, between 5 and 9 pm to AfterProm Barrington. You can enjoy some "Wood-Fired Love" on the East Side off of Thayer Street and support Barrington’s annual AfterProm.

A weekly “brown bag lunch” series for East Bay business women resumes Tuesday, Jan. 7, and runs for the next three months at the East Bay Chamber of Commerce, 16 Cutler St., Warren. The women’s winter series is hosted by W.E.B.O.N.D. (Women's Empowerment and Business Owners Networking Development) and sponsored by RE/MAX River’s Edge from 12 to 1 pm. There is a guest speaker each week. Admission is $5 a week or $45 for the complete series.Here is the January schedule of topics and speakers:

  • Jan. 14  "Peace and Power as a Woman Entrepreneur – Two Key Practices" led by Joanna Meriweather
