FAB Sponsors Parade Hat Contest

Family-run substance abuse prevention program to give out cash prize to hat that raises most awareness.

Make a hat and win some cash. If you’re marching in Barrington’s Memorial Day Parade, that is.

Barrington’s FAB (For Anything But…alcohol, drugs or tobacco) family-run substance abuse prevention program will award you $100 if you help them create more awareness.

Decorate or make a hat with the word FAB boldly stated on it along with FAB’s slogan: DO GOOD THINGS!  The prize could be yours, said Meg Jones of pottery studio on Kent Street.

She and her family created FAB about five years ago. It’s sponsored by her Art by You program at the studio. Tiles created by FAB supporters can be seen around town in several restaurants.

There are no rules, just have fun! That’s Jones’ only rule.

Volunteers will be standing along the parade route to identify the best hat, Jones said. If you use recycled newspaper, magazines, paper bags, wrapping paper, Jones said you will make an even bigger impression.
