Sing in Church Choir for Summer

The Barrington Presbyterian Church is offering singers a chance to sing in a summer choir.

If you love to sing, this opportunity may be for you this summer.

The is hosting a summer choir open to anyone of high-school age and older who loves to sing, according to John Black, music and choir director.

The choir will run from this Sunday, July 15 through Aug. 19.

“All you have to do is show up at 9 am for a quick practice (30 minutes), and stay to sing in the 10 am worship service,” said Black. “This will be a non-membership ensemble, so there is no long-term commitment; you are welcome to sing as often or as seldom as you like.”

The music to be sung is "simple worship music in an easy to read format," he said.

“Musical selections are beautiful traditional sacred pieces that are very easy
to learn during our rehearsals,” he said. “This is a very low-key, low-pressure way to maintain good ensemble technique during the summer, or to gain exposure to singing in a choir."

“Music will be given to you on sheet music,” he said, “but if you don’t have the ability to read music, it will be easy to learn the pieces in our short practices.”

“We are the only church in town to be offering a full music program during the summer,”  Black added. “This music program will include solo vocalists and instrumentalists, as well as the choir.”

If you would like to receive the pieces in advance, send an email to Black at bpc400@barrpres.org.
