Enjoy 'Land Trust Day' in Barrington

Hike a trail in Veterans Memorial Park and then have more fun at a cookout at the adjacent Bayside YMCA on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Hike a trail in the middle of Barrington and then enjoy a cookout at the adjacent Bayside YMCA late Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14.

This "Long Summer Family Fun Day" is part of the annual RI Land Trust Days, a series of activities and events all across Rhode Island over the next couple of months.

A guide from the Barrington Land Conservation Trust will lead the 4:30 pm walk through Veterans Memorial Park, which abuts the Bayside YMCA. It will include a Bingo challenge.

Go to the kiosk at the green trail -- one of the trails that has been improved by the Land Trust, the YMCA, the National Park Service and other local partners over the past couple of years.

The trail includes woods, wetlands and Brickyard Pond – all in the heart of Barrington.

Then between 5:30 and 6:30 pm, you can enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs plus a drink and a side for $1 or $2 depending on your “order” at the YMCA.

You can also participate in a variety of family activities at the ‘Y’, such as obstacles and challenges, and you can take a dip in the YMCA’s outdoor swimming pool until 7 pm.

You can also take a "Moving Moon Walk" back in Veterans Park at 6:30 pm if you can't wait to get back. It will follow the first-quarter moon across the sky.

Go to www.LandTrustDays.org for more details about these activities and a full calendar of Land Trust events statewide.
