They combined to shoot a -12 under sizzling temperatures and sunny, humid skies at Rhode Island Country Club.
The teams of Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler and co-founder and co-host Billy Andrade of Bristol and his partner, Bill Haas, are 1 shot back at -11.

Another two shots back are the defending champions, Morgan Pressel and Jay Hass, at -9.
Three teams, Michael Thompson and Fuzzy Zoeller; Russell Henley and Julie Inkster, celebrating her birthday; and first-time classic player Louis Oosthuizen and three-time winner Nick Price are at -7.

The first-round results set up what is expected to be a hard-fought and even hotter second round with seven teams within five shots of the lead. Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to again top 90 degrees.
Co-host and co-founder Brad Faxon of Barrington and Jeff Sluman are at -5. Lexi Thompson and Peter Jacobsen and Billy Horschel and Annika Sorenstam are at -4.
Tee times on Tuesday go from 9 to 9:40 am. An awards ceremony will be held at approximately 2 pm at the 18th green.
