T-shirt Design for Trot Off Your Turkey Races Unveiled

Many runners, walkers in 14th annual races to raise funds for St. Luke's School in Barrington will wear a T-shirt bearing the winning design.

The 14th annual Trot Off Your Turkey 5k/1.5M Run/Walk at St. Luke’s School in Barrington trots off on Saturday morning, Nov. 30. Many of the more than 1,000 runners and walkers will wear a T-shirt selected as part of the annual design competition.

This year, as in many past years, the winning T-shirt design came from a student or an alumnus of the K-8 Catholic school off of Washington Road. Christine Elson, a ninth-grader at Bay View Academy in Riverside, had her winning design unveiled at a pep rally last Friday afternoon, Nov. 22, at St. Luke’s.

Christine designed her turkey peace sign with an iPad, said Denise Languirand, a race organizer. She was one of 10 finalists.

The race pep rally also included a question-and-answer “televised race coverage” skit performed by members of the Student Council under direction of advisors librarian Nancy Brex and 8th-grade teacher Doreen Schiff. Students were asked about race facts and trivia as well as chase a turkey-costumed student around the gym, said Languirand

Discounted pre-registration continues at the race website through today. You can also register at the school on Friday afternoon between noon and 3 pm. The school opens Saturday at 8 am for walk-up registration.
