A Hampden Meadows School teacher has been recognized as a digital technology “star.”
Carrie Clegg, who teaches fourth- and fifth-graders at the Barrington school, has been named a STAR Discovery Educator by Discovery Education, a digital media and technology network.
Clegg was cited for her “commitment to harnessing digital learning to inspire students’ curiosity and prepare them for future careers.”
STAR Discovery Educators are active members of the Discovery Educator Network (DEN), a global community of educators who are passionate about teaching with digital media and technology and sharing ideas and resources. As a STAR Discovery Educator, Clegg has proven herself as a leader in transforming and enhancing learning in Barrington School District classrooms, according to the organization.
“Discovery Education and the DEN are proud to honor the hard work and dedication of Carrie,” said Lance Rougeux, vice president of learning communities and instructional implementation for Discovery Education.
“It is the work of passionate and committed educators like her who are engaging students through the use of digital media and technology that is making a difference across the country,” she said.
As a STAR Discovery Educator, Clegg will share resources and innovative teaching methods with fellow educators across the district, state and world to improve student engagement and achievement.
STAR Discovery Educators have exclusive access to a wide range of free professional development activities provided by the DEN, according to the organization. The DEN offers best practices for effective and appropriate use of digital media and technology in the classroom and provides educators a forum for collaborating and networking online and in-person.
As one of the largest professional education learning communities, the DEN has made an impact on more than 1 million educators worldwide.
Any educator who uses Discovery Education products and services can apply to become a STAR Discovery Educator by submitting an example in which they shared best practice techniques for engaging students using digital media and technology.
