Sowams Festival: Fun for Whole Family

Barrington's Sowams School annual 'October Festival' is Saturday, Oct. 13.

Sowams Elementary School's annual October Festival -- the biggest PTO fundraiser for more than 20 years -- is tomorrow, Oct. 13, all around the school on Sowams Road.

The festival runs from 10 am to 3 pm -- rain or shine -- but the forecast looks great so far. It's billed as "fun for the whole family."

Expect to find many of the favorites from past years: games, hair beading, pony rides, moon bounce, an obstacle course, nail and face painting, tattoos, mystery bags, cookie decorating, karaoke, a coffee bar, a homerun derby in the Little League field, and live action Angry Birds.

You can also bid on "silent auction" prizes and buy a ticket to win a themed basket. See the October Festival website for previews of the auction and class basket.

There also is a Bake Walk that is so much more than cake.

The festival cookout will serve up hot dogs, burgers, cotton candy, and popcorn.

Money raised by the festival will go toward PTO-supported field trips, special guests at school assemblies, new library books, special family nights at the school, and the upkeep of the school gardens and playground. The PTO also buys the school a special gift every year.

Admission is free. See a video from last year's festival.

Please park only on the school side of Sowams Road.
