Seven Barrington Educators Get Special Appreciation

The Barrington Special Education Advisory Committee held its second-annual Special Educator Appreciation event on Monday and they had a tough time choosing among the 45 heartfelt nomination submissions from parents and professionals to pare the list down to seven.

Before the awards were announced, Susan Healy-Mills, special education director, lauded the recipients for their hard work and dedication to children in the school district.

The awards were presented by members of the SEAC leadership team, Lisa Ottone Silva, Rose Murrin and Heather Navarro. A fourth member, Jill Tosone, was unable to attend the festivities.

The awards were presented before a crowd of about 30 people and Ottone Silva said the awards are just a small way of saying thanks.

"As a parent, these awards are only a small token of the appreciation that we have for all of the educators, administrators and support staff in the district," she said. "Their commitment, enthusiasm and constant support provide educational opportunities that benefit not only students with disabilities, but the entire Barrington community.  We cannot thank them enough."

The recipients are:

  • Judy LaCross -  Reading Specialist - Primrose Elementary School
  • Rachel Lally - Teacher Assistant - Sowams Elementary School
  • Allynn Grantham - Alternative Learning Program (ALP) teacher - Barrington High School
  • Robert Shea - School Committee member
  • Steve Marchetti - Special Education teacher - Nayatt Elementary School
  • Donna Hartmann - School Psychologist - Hampden Meadows School
  • (Not Photographed) Tracy Slye - District Speech Language Pathologist - Barrington Middle School
