School Board Invites You to Serve

The Barrington School Committee is seeking members to serve on four subcommittees being set up to help implement the 2012-2017 Strategic Plan.

The Barrington School Committee invites you to serve on one of its new subcommittees.

Four subcommittees -- all-day kindergarten, policy, strategic communication, and technology -- are being set up to help implement the new 2012-2017 Strategic Plan.

All members of the community -- including students -- with strong skills in team collaboration, creative thinking, and an interest in strategic planning are invited to apply to serve, said Superintendent Michael Messore.

“The subcommittees, through simultaneous work relative to key district issues as identified in the Strategic Plan, will conduct research and provide recommendations to the School Committee to facilitate its decision making process in its quest to move the district forward on its path of continuous improvement,” said Messore in a news release.

A School Committee member and a central office administrator will co-chair each of the subcommittees, said Messore.

Each of the subcommittees, except for policy, may include building administrators, faculty members, three to five community members and a student, the superintendent said. Here are the charges and co-chairs of the subcommittees:

All Day Kindergarten (Co-Chairs Scott Fuller and Michael Messore)

Explore options, using best practice research methods and data analysis, for implementation of a district wide All Day Kindergarten program and make recommendation to School Committee.

Policy (Co-Chairs Patrick Guida and Paula Dillon)

Review and support implementation of all district policies, to include working with Superintendent and Staff to develop draft policy, present draft policy to School Committee for approval, and make recommendations regarding revitalization of district policies.

Strategic Communication (Co-Chairs Kate Brody and Michael Messore) Develop a district strategic communication plan that supports the district's strategic goals and enhances district use of external and internal communications mechanisms, expands opportunities to gather perceptions and viewpoints from diverse segments of faculty, staff, students and community members, and promotes and strengthens public and student engagement and communication with the School Committee and district.

Technology (Co-Chairs Paula Dominguez and Katie Miller)

Develop an incremental plan leading to the creation of a 21st century learning environment that supports the district's strategic goals to ensure success for every student, build productive partnerships for education, promote a positive culture, provide optimal learning environments, and efficiently/effectively manage fiscal resources.

You can submit an online application at www.barringtonschools.org by Wednesday, March 13. The subcommittee co-chairs will review all applications with a goal of getting broad representation from the community, said Messore.

Applicants will be notified of their subcommittee status by Thursday, March 21.

“Please consider joining the Barrington School Committee and district administrators and educators to effect change that will benefit all students in the Barrington Public Schools,” said Messore. “We need your input, including the student perspective, and look forward to your participation in this vital process.”
