'Rest of the Story' on Common Core to Follow 'Outreach' Session

Stop Common Core RI organizers to present a separate information session in the Barrington High School cafeteria at approximately 8:30 pm.

The Barrington-based citizens group formed to oppose the implementation of Common Core in Rhode Island will hold a separate information session tonight immediately following the “Common Core Outreach” presented by the education department and local school officials at 7 pm in the high school auditorium.

Dubbed "The Rest of the Story," the information and learning session will take place at approximately 8:30 pm in the Barrington High School cafeteria, according to a blog posted on Patch by Tad Segal of Barrington, a parent and organizer of Stop Common Core RI.

“We encourage everyone to attend both sessions,” said Segal in the blog. “As Barrington parents, educators, local elected officials and citizens with concerns and reservations about the Common Core, we think it’s critically important to provide everyone with fact-based information and research about the Common Core State Standards and related high-stakes PARCC testing that we simply won’t get from the RIDE presentation.”

The short session, says Segal, “will present findings and research covering a small number of important topics of interest to parents and residents. This event is non-partisan and non-ideological in nature.”

Joining Segal at the session will be Susan Giordano, Emily Conner and Amy Segal – parents with children in the Barrington schools; Scott Fuller, Barrington School Committee member and a Cumberland High School math teacher; and State Rep. Gregg Amore of East Providence, an East Providence High School history teacher and sponsor of legislation to pause high-stakes PARCC testing and investigate the Common Core.
