Field Hockey Squad Playing for State Title

Barrington High School goes up against Moses Brown on Sunday afternoon at Roger Williams University.

A goal in triple overtime in last Wednesday’s semifinal match has pushed the unbeaten Barrington High School field hockey team into the state championship match again on Sunday, Nov. 3. 

The Barrington girls defeated the Lincoln School, 1-0, at Cranston Stadium to advance to a title rematch with unbeaten Moses Brown, which also won a 1-0 semifinal game against East Greenwich on Wednesday in Cranston.

The teams will play at Roger Williams University in Bristol at 2 pm.

Barrington, now 17-0-1 on the season, and Moses Brown 15-0-3, will meet for the second straight year in the Division I finals of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Field Hockey Tournament. Moses Brown is the defending champion.

Barrington is in the title game for the fourth straight year. The squads played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 8, the only blemish on the Eagles’ unbeaten record.

Junior midfielder Katelyn McMahon scored the only goal against Lincoln School on a rebound in front of the net with 19 second left in the third overtime and the teams playing 5-on-5 by this point, according to a story in the Providence Journal.

Neither team could put the ball in the net through regulation play or two 10-minute 7-on-7 overtime periods. The third overtime saw the teams play 6-on-6 at the 7-minute mark and then 5-on-5 at the 4-minute mark.
