Barrington High School drama club take first place in RI State Drama Festival; next stage is in New Hampshire at New England festival.

Now it’s on to the New England Championships in April for the Barrington High School drama club, the Stagemasters.

The club won the 2012 Rhode Island State Drama Festival last weekend, March 16-17, at Mt. Hope High School in Bristol. And several Barrington students took home significant prizes.

Bobby Robertson was presented with the first Terry Murray Theatrical Achievement Award and Scholarship, worth $500.

Elsa Cousins was presented with the Stanley Anderson Technical Theatre Award and Scholarship, also worth $500.

Two Barrington students were selected for the All-State Drama Company: Sydney Remson and Michael Caizzi.

Keri Schnabel, the student director for the drama festival show, received an award for Excellence in Directing.

Eleven high schools competed in the two-day drama festival sponsored by the Rhode Island Theatre Education Association.

Three theater professionals, Kim Kalunian, Kit Rodgers and Daniel Lee White, served as adjudicators.

The drama group performed “Table 12,” a one-act comedy about a certain table of 10 guests at a wedding.

The script for Table 12 was used and changed without the playwright's permission and she was never paid for her work. Shame on the adults in charge of this department for not teaching their students the ethics that should always accompany the arts.

This play was produced and changed without notifying the playwright or paying her for her work. This is absolutely shameful and the adults should be reprimanded for their unethical actions.
