Oh, Mai Goodness, 'Sandy Relief'

Barrington High School teaching assistant Mai Donohue will be cooking a complete Vietnamese dinner on Jan. 31 as a “Sandy Relief” fundraiser.

Specifically, the fundraiser will benefit students at New Dorp High School on State Island, which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Donohue is doing all the cooking and donating two weeks of her pay to buy the food.

This is where you come in, said Michelle Pouliot, a junior at the high school.

“I am a part of the Chain Reaction Club, one of the many organizations involved with Mai Donohue's cause,” she said. “We are in need of donations. Purchasing of tickets, donating raffle or silent auction items, or simple monetary donations are all welcome and greatly needed.”

You can email requests for tickets to Jason Appel at appelj@bpsmail.org and donations can be mailed or dropped off in the BHS main office on 220 Lincoln Avenue.

Pouliot said a letter from the principal of New Dorp High School better describes the physical, financial, and mental hardships of three individuals as well as the overall wreckage of the town.
