Volleyball Courts, Skateboard Park, Outdoor Stage on Rec Board Agenda

The Barrington Parks and Recreation Commission meets tonight at the Bay Spring Community Center.

Proposals for a beach volleyball court, a skateboard park and an outdoor performing arts venue make up the bulk of the agenda for the meeting tonight, Dec. 19, of the Barrington Parks and Recreation Commission.

The meeting starts at 7 pm in a new location – the Bay Spring Community Center, 170 Narragansett Ave. The commission usually meets in the library, but the meeting has been moved across town because of repairs to the elevator.

Recreation board alternate member Patrick Sullivan has proposed adding two beach volleyball courts to Latham Park on Bullock’s Cove, which is undergoing some improvements to protect the beach from erosion.

Barrington High School senior Alex Raad would like the town to create a skateboard park on Legion Way near the ice skating rink. The park is his senior project.

The outdoor stage already has endorsements from the recreation commission and the Town Council. But Kim Fournier of the Bay Spring Community Center and DenaDavis of Arts Alive! were urged to go back to the recreation board to work out more specific details while seeking additional support and, perhaps, funding for the outdoor stage.
